Today, we are speaking with Jesse Wood, creator of Skyrim Wellbeing Manager. This unique application gamifies mental health tracking using Skyrim lore to help users manage their wellbeing and daily tasks in an engaging way.
What does Skyrim Wellbeing Manager do? And why is now the time for it to exist?
My project is designed to help those who love games, in particular Skyrim, and those who are struggling with mental health issues. Now’s a good time for Skyrim Wellbeing Manager to exist because there is an increasing need for accessible, engaging mental health tools that meet people where their passions lie.
What is your traction to date? How many people does Skyrim Wellbeing Manager reach?
This project reaches three people at the moment, myself, my partner, and my sister, the all use it to track their mental wellbeing and todos.
Who does your Skyrim Wellbeing Manager serve? What’s exciting about your users and customers?
This project is for anyone who struggles with their mental health and wants things to improve. In particular, there is a notable usecase where a patient may share their historical wellbeing data with a doctor, and the medical professional may use the data to inform their diagnosis, or recommend the best course of action.
What technologies were used in the making of Skyrim Wellbeing Manager? And why did you choose ones most essential to your techstack?
The project is built using a modern and lightweight tech stack featuring React for a responsive user interface and Firebase for reliable backend infrastructure. Additionally, it leverages the Google API to creatively generate AI-powered quest descriptions that are accurate to Skyrim lore.
What is traction to date for Skyrim Wellbeing Manager? Around the web, who’s been noticing?
As an early-stage project, initial traction has been sparked by sharing the development journey and concept with the community. Most notably, the project's creative approach was recently featured in a dedicated HackerNoon article, generating early interest in its unique gamified mental health model.
What excites you about this Skyrim Wellbeing Manager's potential usefulness? *
If this project were to improve the lives of a single person, I would be ecstatic. The idea of helping someone else along with their mental health journey, the way this system has helped me, is very useful in creating a positive impact in the world. Usually, you would have to pay for a mood tracking app, with a one off payment or subscription-based model. But I offer this to the user as a free-to-use product. I pay for the Google API key used for AI-generated quest descriptions of their todos that are accurate to Skyrim lore.
Skyrim Wellbeing Manager scored a 45 proof of usefulness score (https://proofofusefulness.com/reports/skyrim-wellbeing-manager)
