Leading firms on the advisory board demonstrate an interest in blockchain-based privacy technologies

Nym, a decentralized privacy system, has appointed George Danesiz, an ex-Meta employee from University College London and Mysten Labs, Aggelos Kiayias from IO Global and the University of Edinburgh, Ben Laurie, and Bart Preneel as advisers. This scientific advisory board will give technical and strategic guidance for future Nym ecosystem collaborations, research, and funding.

A Nym developer and ecosystem fund are being formed using the proceeds of the CoinList token sale and the support of several renowned venture capital companies and exchanges. a16z, Polychain, Eden Block, Huobi Ventures, Tioga, Hash key, Fenbushi, and Tayssir Capital are among the venture capital companies that have already committed to participating in the selection process of future Nym eco-system investments. Next Monday, the first batch of eco-system grants will be disclosed.

At IO Global, Aggelos Kiayias is most recognized for creating Cardano's energy-efficient proof-of-stake mechanism and several other blockchain-based breakthroughs (formerly IOHK). Kiayias is a professor of cybersecurity and privacy at the University of Edinburgh, where he was the project coordinator for the European Commission's PANORAMIX project, which led to Nym. Before working on Cardano, he was the project coordinator for the European Commission's PANORAMIX project, which led to Nym. He used the Nym crypto economics for mix nets to his previous Cardano work.

Ben Laurie, Principal Engineer at Google Research and Machine Intelligence, joins Nym on the show. Ben Laurie is well recognized for his work on encrypting the Web using TLS and Certificate Transparency. He was rumored to be a Wikileaks advisor in its early days. He will provide Nym with advice on scalability and secure hardware support.

George Danezis, a UCL professor and former Meta leading researcher (and a co-founder of Mysten Labs), has joined the project as an advisor. Danezis is a co-founder of the Coconut anonymous credential system and the Loopix mixnet, which he will continue to improve at Nym.

"There is a greater need for a cross-chain, general-purpose answer to the present surveillance dilemma," George Danezis said of his decision to join the project. Nym has the potential to change the way people interact with the internet while also lowering the amount of digital surveillance that exists today. I am honored to be joining the board of directors of this ambitious and critically needed endeavor."

Prof. Bart Preneel of KU Leuven has been at the forefront of attempts to build post-Snowden encryption and anonymous credentials. He is the head of Europe's most important privacy and security research team.

Nym's open-source mixnet operated as a privacy layer for any program, coin, or wallet and was created by a team of prominent developers and academics. The system provides full-stack privacy by motivating "mix nodes" to conceal traffic patterns and information.
