For those who aren't familiar with it, fear not - in this short guide, we'll teach you all the essentials to turn you into a stellar tech warrior. So, gear up, accelerate to warp 9, and let us dive into the unknown.
Mission Report: A Wild Noonies Appears
We all love healthy competition, and HackerNoon loves to award bold and knowledgeable techies like yourself. The Noonies are awards from and for the tech industry that aim to reward people and companies from every corner of the internet.
The previous Noonies editions racked up more than 7k+ nominees. Over 400k votes were cast, and 2k+ awards were given.
It comes as no surprise that Noonies numbers are so high when the award winners get more than those oh-so-sweet bragging rights.
Noonies 2022 winners get to share in over $100k worth of prizes. These prizes include a .Tech Domain for life (10 years), an official HackerNoon NFT, HackerNoon shop credit, and even a few cash prizes. Plus, a few unearthly treats like internet street cred and celebrity complex.

This year's Noonies presents five main categories: Web3, Gaming, Programming, Internet Heroes, and Emerging Tech.
Each category holds a number of different awards that you can get your hands on, such as Best Data Science Newsletter , Gaming Guru of the Year, Android Advocate of the Year, Ultimate Startup Strategist, among many others.

A Nomination? Little old me?
Did you get nominated for a category? Well, beam me up, Scotty! You should be thrilled! You might just be our next Captain Kirk or Janeway! However, if a nomination isn't enough to fully satisfy you, let your Starfleet (community) know it's time to vote and get a leg up on your competition, aka those nasty Klingons. Who knows? You may very well win that award!

Yet, if you haven't got that itty bitty nomination, don't worry - you won’t be sent to Cheron. There's still time. Public nominations are open until August 31st, 2022. Visit noonies.tech to nominate your friend, boss, coworker, sister, or friendly neighborhood techie for a Noonie (or yourself cause like no shame). Just click on any individual award and type the name and information of your nominee. The HackerNoon team will review your nomination.

How to power up your vote
The higher your level within the Federation, the stronger your vote. We weigh votes to elevate the voice of our contributing writers, reward verified expertise, and devalue spam. HackerNoon published writers' votes count as 10, authenticated users' votes count as 3, and unauthenticated visitors have their vote count as 1 (pending spam reviews).
The reasons for this are:
- By publishing their words and expertise on Hacker Noon, the contributing writer has earned the right to have their voice count the most when it comes to who deserves HackerNoon rewards;
- Authenticated users have a much lower spam rate, so their votes should count more;
- We want to continue to ensure that any human can vote, even if they don’t want to share any personal information. All visitors can vote once on each award in the voting season.
