Dogecoin holders could soon buy Tesla automobiles and services using their assets.

Tesla is may be testing Dogecoin as a cryptocurrency payment option. On January 11, a Twitter user going by the handle @BitDeepu revealed in a screenshot Tesla code showing Dogecoin as means of payment.

Notably, Tesla’s source code shows that the memecoin holders can now buy Tesla Model Y with their DOGE tokens.

This news comes after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on December 14, that the electric carmaker would accept his favorite coin — DOGE for merchandise on a test basis. He said,

“Tesla will make some merch buyable with Doge & see how it goes”

However, before this, Musk asked his Twitter followers if Tesla should accept DOGE as a form of payment in May. Among the respondents, 78.2% replied yes.

Although the image shows that the electric carmaker giant integrated crypto payment with Dogecoin, there is no official announcement from the company.

Note that Musk is the biggest fan of the memecoin. He once called Dogecoin, a meme-inspired digital asset, a 'hustle' during his guest-host on the "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) comedy sketch TV show in May.

Last year, Tesla said it would stop accepting Bitcoin for its products, less than 2 months after the company started receiving the largest crypto by market cap for payment.
