TLDR In Java 10 a new feature Local-Variable Type Inference was added. It was aimed at reducing boilerplate code and improving the readability of local variables with initializers. It can be used in Java 10 but not in Java 11. Developers should use it judiciously and use it sparingly. It's not supported in some areas where it can't be used and where it is not supported.
