Web2 has been a great upgrade from the original version and we are quite comfortably settled with it, but after nearly 20 years, it's just about time for a trade-in, and it might be right around the corner.
As with any new, unknown technology, there are plenty of questions, concerns, and “what ifs” about Web3, but the average internet user can rest assured that most causes for concern are actually among hackers and cyber criminals. Cybercriminals have always understood the value of opensource. They know that sharing information readily among their community will only translate to greater profits for all of them.
However, Web3 is finally leveling the playing field. When the entire internet operates with the same kind of openness then hackers will also be under more scrutiny and have a harder time hiding activity from the general public.
To understand this more, we need to delve into the differences between each of the Web versions.
Web1, which was first introduced in 1989, was essentially a “read only” version where users had no input and social media was nonexistent. With the introduction of Web2 in 2004, the web became a more immersive experience, but also is controlled by big business and national government regulations. Web3 has the potential to be the most user controlled version yet with decentralized online spaces for everyone.
Web3 promises to open the doors to the entire globe for each user. Individuals will have more anonymity since gathered data will no longer point to the physical person or a physical location. Web3 will also create massive numbers of job opportunities as individuals from any country could ultimately begin working independently from anywhere in the world, for businesses anywhere in the world. It is positioned to be a game changer for the future of work for the self-sovereign worker.
The high level of visibility, combined with the new levels of individual protection and anonymity will give hackers a run for their money and far fewer avenues of entry to exploit.
With all of these incredible benefits, from new job opportunities from worldwide employability, to job security, as well as increased cyber security, 81% of individuals believe that Web3 has the potential to have a significant positive impact on their happiness and overall well being.
