Jaeger and OpenTelemetry are part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) They offer one of the most popular open source distributed tracing solutions out there. Jaeger helps engineers track and measure requests and transactions by analyzing end-to-end data from service call chains. The ability to analyze metrics calculated off traces would be tremendously helpful in monitoring microservices. The proposed Span Metrics Processor is a processor which aggregates Request and Duration Error and Duration metrics from span data.
