Google announced plans to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, India. The company will commit $15 billion over the next five years, which Reuters called, "the biggest ever investment in the world's most populous nation."

The facility will integrate AI infrastructure, data center operations, large-scale energy systems, and expanded fiber-optic networks to support AI development and deployment across India.

"A landmark investment, putting Google’s best-in-class infrastructure and technology towards powering AI transformation, strategic connectivity and digital resilience in India," said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud. "It includes:

- Gigawatt-scale data center capacity to power AI-first applications: Specifically built for the demands of next-generation AI, this massive computational capacity will power the AI services that people in India use every day, including Google Search, Gemini, Workspace and YouTube.

- The creation of a new international subsea gateway on the East Coast of India: This includes the deployment of new subsea cables strategically located to deliver high-speed, resilient connectivity, and strengthen the nation's digital backbone."
