Time Raiders, built on the Polygon blockchain, is a fast-paced, shoot-and-loot game with prizes in NFTs and the game's native token, $XPND. The game was created by Utopian Game Labs and Polygon Studios, Polygon's NFT, gaming, and Metaverse arm.

Blockchain-based play-to-earn games provide an enticing use case for NFTs and digital assets, allowing ordinary people to earn money from their pastimes. Early newcomers to the NFT gaming market, on the other hand, often suffer from uninspiring gameplay and high barriers to entry for new players.

This void allows creators of gameplay-focused blockchain projects to offer play-and-earn experiences rather than play-to-earn titles.

Story

It is the year 2247. As humanity's technical skills grew, so did its appetites, and consumption quickly outpaced what the Earth could provide. Because of a scarcity of resources, there was increased rivalry between them.

Corporate movements developed into corporate raids; national maneuvering went into war; and improving your career resulted in real corpses being trodden underfoot. As the affluent erected sparkling futuristic buildings loaded with innovation, medicine, and luxury hardly comprehendible to the teeming masses left scrambling for crumbs, the gap between the different classes grew wider.

Even those who headed empires saw that the end of mankind was approaching. There would be no technical breakthrough, no agreement to resolve conflicts, and no societal solution to end the divides among humanity's remains.

In the face of this impending disaster, a curious chemical was found. This mysterious new substance seemed to arise out of nowhere and spread without regard for status among the haves and have-nots. This new substance, dubbed 'Flux,' enabled people and things to travel across time.

The unexpected availability of historical treasures provided mankind with fresh hope. This desire resulted in the emergence of a new profession: 'Time Raider.' Those who are bold, reckless, or desperate enough to face the danger might go back in time to earn their riches or meet their demise at the hands of their forefathers.

Gameplay

Time Raiders is a play-and-earn game project that prioritizes the "play" element above all else. The game features a diverse range of player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) game modes.

Players take part in a high-octane treasure hunt across several time periods and historic sites. The initial levels are set in a WW2 alternate world, and later levels will feature ages including:

  • Prehistoric Ages
  • Victorian Steampunk
  • Medieval Dark Ages
  • Futuristic Outer Space
  • Feudal Japan
  • Three Kingdoms Era China
  • Far Future Warzone Hellscape
  • Ancient Rome
  • Ancient Egypt
  • Aztec Era

The game also plans to enable user-generated and owned levels in the future. Everything in the game is an NFT that can be purchased, exchanged, sold, or staked for Xpendium, Time Raiders' native utility currency. The rarity and in-game usefulness of these NFTs determine their worth.

Since players don’t need to buy an NFT to get started, it’s easier for new gamers to start playing. Utopian Game Labs, the team behind the game have worked on console-based games for iconic brands such as Star Wars, Doctor Who, and Die Hard.

Characters

Players will begin with a basic character that may be upgraded and customized in many ways. The player also acquires several Companions with various character classes, allowing them to utilize particular kinds of weaponry as well as class-specific goods and skills.

There are currently seven classes available:

  1. Gunners - Gunners scan the battlefield with rapid-fire, high-ammunition weapons such as assault rifles.
  2. Ninja Monks - Ninja Monks, who specialize in stealth and close-quarters fighting, employ ambush and surprise to their advantage.
  3. Snipers - Snipers eliminate threats with minimum personal risk by relying on precise, long-range riflery.
  4. Heavies - Heavies plunge headlong into battle with thick armor, high health, and strong but slow-firing weaponry.
  5. Demolition - Explosions, fire, and mayhem are their stock in trade, and bombers utilize shock and awe techniques to both kill and maim.
  6. Techies - A range of futuristic specialized technologies provides these Raiders an advantage.
  7. Peaceniks - Scientists, medics, and researchers assist their more aggressive colleagues in completing tasks.

Conclusion

Time Raiders is a P2E treasure hunting game that takes a gameplay-first approach to blockchain gaming. Polygon Studios' collaboration with Time Raiders builds a community platform ahead of the game's open beta test. It will also assist Utopian Game Labs, which previously got early-stage funding from Polygon Studios for the project, in adding new features and levels in future releases.
