Does looking for a new job and sending out resumes need to be a tedious task?
Not always.
I make it easier by automating some of its stages.
Let’s take writing cover letters.
Every time I apply for a job at a different company, I have to write a new letter and try to make it well-fitted for that exact job position.
So, then I thought…
Why not have a framework that will be applicable to any job position, and then I can just slightly alter it if needed to add some personal touch?
To make the process as smooth and effective as possible I decided to use ChatGPT.
To make my cover letter sound convincing, I try to remember a few things:
Avoiding summarizing my resume – the purpose of the letter is to exactly pinpoint which of my assets fit the chosen job position, not to repeat what is already included in the resume attachment.
Making it personal– Although the tone I use is formal, I try to avoid pompous vocabulary or expressions that might make my letter look artificial or just copy-pasted from another application.
Giving examples - I not only name my most significant job experience but also provide the exact skill examples that helped me excel in my tasks in the past.
Stating the value - I remember to mention future professional goals and make them relevant and valuable for the company that is hiring.
I want to keep the letter formal, yet genuine. It needs to cover all essential information: from the name of the position that I am applying for, to my ambitions and the value I would add to the company I want to work for.
Here is a ready input:
Write a cover letter, divided into 5 sections: Greeting, Introduction, Experience and talents, Ambitions and value for the company and Conclusion . Keep the language simple, but formal. Form sentences in the direct manner. Keep the tone genuine and personal.
Section 1: Greeting
Address the letter to: (here put the name of the person if you know it or simply Dear Hiring Manager/Team if you are not sure who will be the recipient of the letter)
Section 2: Introduction
Write a short paragraph which includes: introducing: (here put your name), stating the reason for writing the letter: applying for a position of (here put the name of the position you are interested in), and excitement about the opportunity to become a member of the company: (here put the name of the company which is hiring).
Section 3: Experience and talents
Write a short paragraph mentioning main assets such as: (here name 3 of your main professional assets) and include them in the description of previous job experience: (here mention your most significant previous position).
Section 4: Ambitions and value for the company
Write a short paragraph stating further professional ambitions: (name 2 goals you want to pursue career wise) and explain why they would be of a value for the position you are applying for in the mentioned company. Apply the skills to the company’s main areas of activity: (state those activities here) and explain how they fit into the company’s vision.
Section 5: Conclusion
Sum up why you want to apply for the mentioned position and show hope that you will be able to get it. End the letter in the formal way and leave the space for signing up.
Here is how I filled it in:
Write a cover letter, divided into 5 sections: Greeting, Introduction, Experience and talents, Ambitions and value for the company and Conclusion . Keep the language simple, but formal. Form sentences in the direct manner. Keep the tone genuine and personal.
Section 1: Greeting
Address the letter to: Dear Hiring Team
Section 2: Introduction
Write a short paragraph which includes: introducing: Anna Sulejewska, stating the reason for writing the letter: applying for a position of Technical Writer, and excitement about the opportunity to become a member of the company: sentimatic.
Section 3: Experience and talents
Write a short paragraph mentioning main assets such as: creativeness, attention to detail, responsibility for the work and include them in the description of previous job experience: Translator and Technical Writer at Medical Turn.
Section 4: Ambitions and value for the company
Write a short paragraph stating further professional ambitions: develop SEO writing skills and gain knowledge on newest AI technicalities and explain why they would be of a value for the position you are applying for in the mentioned company. Apply the skills to the company’s main areas of activity: AI voice analysis in call centers and explain how they fit into the company’s vision.
Section 5: Conclusion
Sum up why you want to apply for the mentioned position and show hope that you will be able to get it. End the letter in the formal way and leave the space for signing up.
And that’s the final result:

ChatGPT tends to use pompous vocabulary which, in my opinion, makes the text sound artificial and overly excited. To make sure I sound genuine, I altered the final version just a little bit.
I write this command:
Now exchange all pompous adjectives and expressions into simple, yet convincing vocabulary items and phrases. Do not change the meaning of the sentences and keep the rest of the content same.
And this is my final version:
