Hackathons and open-source software have seen an 8,000% growth in participation in Hacktoberfest in 2019. Companies that participate in hackathons create a culture of innovation and are seeing dividends in development. The industry as a whole is already estimated to be worth over $20bn and is expected to continue growing to reach around $33bn by 2022.
