Too Long; Didn't Read

A self-defeating prophecy, or “self-negating prediction,” is where the existence of a prediction or belief ultimately leads to the opposite of what is expected. This is a characteristic of what are sometimes called “level two chaotic systems” The end of oil as a resource has been predicted many times over the past century, including 1909, 1937, 1945, 1966, 1972, 1980, and 2007.
