I almost never drive. I walk two miles to work along a bus line and hop on the bus when it’s too cold or I’m running late. Occasionally a neighbor driver will pull over and offer a ride or a neighbor cyclist will pull over and walk along and chat with me. The company is nice and occasionally I accept a ride. This morning I had to drive in to the office. I have a meeting in Hartford and CT’s regional transportation to the North is nearly non existent. (That’s changing for the better soon.) On the way in a woman was desperately . I could tell she had just missed her bus. I gave her a ride down the bus line and let her out where I had to turn. It felt good and I enjoyed the company. I’ve had the thought a few times while passing bus stops that I should offer to give folks a ride downtown. I haven’t because i feel like I would be perceived as creepy. hitchhiking It’s occurred to me on many morning commutes that their should be an for modern hitchhiking that leverages crowd accountability.
