The design of said software stack is composed of an application layer (Cosmos-SDK), a consensus layer, and a networking layer (Tendermint Core). Tendermint marries consensus with a p2p gossip protocol in a completely novel way. Using a monolithic architecture is typically bad practice in computer science, as doing so makes it difficult to reuse components of the code, and attempts to do so <a href="https://blog.cosmos.network/technology-choices-when-building-your-own-blockchain-a15385cf59bd" target="_blank">result in complex maintenance procedures for forks of the codebase</a>.
