In recent years, the most successful survivor horror games have all been remakes of Resident Evil remakes. Resident Evil 2 was released in 2019 with massive critical acclaim which left many hailing the reimagined classic, the greatest remake of all time. Resident Evil 3 came a year later and did not receive as many positive reviews (many complained that certain parts of the original game were cut and that it was incredibly short). Despite this, the game still sold well, hitting a 6.4 million milestone in the most up-to-date figures. Resident Evil 4, released just over a month ago, exploded onto the market selling The remake of what many consider one of the greatest horror games of all time sits at a 93 on Metacritic. Reviewers and Resi fans alike are placing it above the Resident Evil 2 remake, claiming 2023's Resident Evil 4 to be the greatest remake of all time. As someone who has played the game, I wholeheartedly agree! three million copies in just two days. With Resident Evil 4 being so successful, similar to the remakes that came before it, it begs the question, which Resident Evil game will be remade next? Below I will break down each Resident Evil game that could technically remake next and ultimately why I believe Resident Evil 5 will be the next RE remake that we will get our hands on. Capcom Table of Contents Resident Evil Resident Evil 0 Resident Evil: Code Veronica Why Resident Evil 5 Will Be the Next RE Remake Resident Evil There's nothing quite like going right back to the start, am I right? Although the game has technically already been remade back on the Gamecube in 2002, many fans have been begging for a modern remake of the game that defined survival horror as a video game genre. The game also has an HD remaster which came to the PS3 in 2014 and The genre-defining game sits at a . sold 3.7million units, the original release back in 1996 sold 2.7million copies and the GameCube remake sold 1.35million units. 91 on Metacritic Sales from the HD remaster show that there is an appetite for a remake of this game, seeing as it has sold a million more units than the Gamecube remake which is over twenty years old. With how highly regarded Resident Evil is, and the hunger for a new remake through the sales history, it could be very lucrative for Capcom to invest in developing a modern remake of this horror classic. I think it would be fantastic to go back to the mansion that kicked off the franchise way back three decades ago, however due to how far Resident Evil 4 pushed the series in a new direction and the remakes being numbered, I don't see how it could be logical going from 4 back to 1 from a marketing perspective. I think it is unlikely that we will get a Resident Evil 1 remake anytime soon; if we were to get one in the near future, then it would have been released before Resident Evil 2 Remake. Resident Evil 0 How about going back before the start, right? This game was a smash hit when it was released on the Gamecube in 2002, expanding the lore of the franchise and exploring the lead-up to the first Resident Evil game. Although it would be brilliant to see one day a remake of 0, for the same reason as Resident Evil 1, I doubt we will see this remake anytime soon. However, the game did receive favourable reviews back in the day with an 83 on Metacritic and it does have a higher high user score with an 8.7 rating. HD remasters of the game weren’t as well received but still sold well with 3.7million copies sold in the most up to date figures (the original sold 1.25million units). Capcom likes to expand on areas of games in their modern remakes such as exploring the lake in Resident Evil 4 Remake, based on this I wouldn't be surprised that if Capcom did remake this prequel, it will either be part of a Resident Evil 1 remake in the story or it would be sold as part of a Resident Evil 1 remake where both games are bundled together. Resident Evil: Code Veronica Technically the fourth instalment in the franchise and a game which received much critical acclaim when it was released on the Dreamcast back in 2000, with a 9__ __, it is considered a cult classic. The game, unfortunately, didn’t sell massively well, only hitting , making it one of the worst-selling Resident Evil games to date. 4 Metacritic score, and a very high user score of 9.5 1.14 million copies sold I do feel however that considering how beloved this game is and the reputation that Capcom have based on their remakes, A Modern Code Veronica could sell well, especially with the fact it features fan-favourite characters like Clair Redfield who we saw in the Resident Evil 2 remake which is the second best selling Resident Evil game to date. The first reason is that the remakes have all been numbered instalments of the series up until now, and it wouldn't make sense for an unnumbered title set way before the latest remake (Resident Evil 4) to release next. The game is set after the destruction of Racoon City, so if we were going to see a Code Veronica remake, it would have likely been released before the Resident Evil 4 remake. Why Resident Evil 5 Will Be the Next RE Remake Warning: Below are potential spoilers for the Resident Evil 4 post-credits scene. Chronology Resident Evil 5 will be the next RE remake to come from Capcom. Why? Because it simply just makes sense chronologically. Every Resident Evil remake has been numbered, and it makes sense from a storytelling perspective to be released next. The 2009 classic is set five years after the events of Resident Evil 4, following a series favourite, Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar investigating a terrorist threat in West Africa. Not only does the game push forward for more action-themed gameplay that we first saw in Resident Evil 4, but it also reintroduces a classic series villain, Albert Wesker. Resident Evil 4 Remake Teaser At the end of the , Albert Wesker makes an appearance in the post-credit scene, mentioning his intent to kill billions of civilians, teasing Resident Evil 5. I doubt that Capcom would have made a character model for Wesker if they aren't intending to remake Resident Evil 5 next, especially with the fact that Albert has such a prominent role in the 5th instalment of the franchise. This has sold more copies than Resident Evil 4 which is regarded as the greatest game in the franchise. 86 on Metacritic Resi 5 has sold 8.6 million copies Remakes for Capcom are a cash cow at the moment with Resident Evil 2 remake copies and and the original game of Resident Evil 5 being one of the best selling Resident Evil games ever, it is safe to say that regardless Resident Evil 5 Remake will well incredible well if they remake this game next. selling 11.2million copies, Resident Evil 3 selling 6.4million Resident Evil 4 selling over 4 million units within its first two months of release Final Thoughts is still to this day one of the most popular and most recognisable video game franchises on the planet, which has had many spin-offs from mainline games, movies and television shows as well. I was late to Resident Evil. My first experience was the Resident Evil 2 remake which completely blew me away in terms of how fantastic the survival horror genre is and how brilliantly designed the Resident Evil games are as well as its characters and storytelling. Based on the fact that I came so late to this franchise I would love to play remakes of all the above games mentioned and one day that might be true, soon though? No way, it’s Resident Evil 5 next. Resident Evil It is clear due to each remake being a numbered title and the teases at the end of the Resident Evil 4 remake, which would naturally continue the story from 4's tease. It also makes the most sense because Chris Redfield is rumoured to make a huge return to the franchise. The latest mainline title, Resident Evil: Village saw the return of Chris in a supporting role to the story and the game also saw an end to the Ethan Winters chapter of the series. That means it is time for another new protagonist in Resident Evil 9 and the conclusion of Village points to a possible Chris Redfield return as the main protagonist. From a marketing perspective it will make a lot of sense to have a remake of one of the biggest games (and Chris stories) in the franchise and then a new chapter with a much older playable Chris in Resident Evil 9. Whether Resident Evil 9 or Resident Evil 5 remake comes to us first, we will have to wait and see, but I think it is safe to say we have A Redfield-filled future in the Resident Evil franchise.

Depending on who you are, January 11th, 2005 represents one of two things for you. If you’re a survival horror purist that believes in psychological horror instead of tension and action, it’s the day that survival horror died in your eyes. Some people are even tired of Resident Evil 4 because of how many times it has been remastered and ported to different consoles. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of the more modern take on survival horror and third-person action, it is the day that survival horror evolved. Resident Evil 4 was released on January 11th, 2005, and regardless of your opinion on it, survival horror, third-person shooters, and gaming, in general, changed forever when they did. 18 years later, Capcom revisited its most polarizing, and arguably most important game when it released the Resident Evil 4 remake. This article will be reviewing the remake, comparing it to the original, and asking whether or not the remake holds up to, or even exceeds the high bar that Resident Evil 4 set all those years ago. Resident Evil 4 Remake: Bringing A Classic Into The Modern Day Resident Evil 4 needs no introduction. If it hadn’t been for Resident Evil 4, gaming wouldn’t be what it is today. The advent of the third-person shooter in the late part of the early 2000s led to “stop and pop” third-person shooters. Games like Gears of War, Uncharted, Dead Space ( another survival horror classic ), and The Division wouldn’t have happened without Resident Evil 4. Its over-the-shoulder camera and revolutionary focus on moment-to-moment intense action gameplay changed how the gaming industry, which was largely focused on historical first-person shooters at the time, worked. In many ways, narrative-focused games were still in their infancy in 2005. Resident Evil paved the way for many of the storytelling and cinematic techniques that we enjoy today in games like The Last of Us. Why Remake Resident Evil 4 At All? I’m sure lots of people have asked why a remake of Resident Evil 4 is necessary, or even worthwhile. The original game exists and an HD remaster of it is available on just about every console. Even VR headsets have Resident Evil 4 on them now. And the answer is that eventually, things need to be redone. Resident Evil 4 is and always will be a classic, but the gaming industry has evolved in the last eighteen years. Controls that were tight and responsive back in 2005 are stiff and hard to work with now. Controlling Leon feels like you’re controlling a tank if you go back and play the original. Gameplay could also use an update to make things feel faster and more responsive to add to the immersion and the tension of the survival horror experience, to say nothing of what a visual upgrade can provide. Surviving The Horror: Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay Review Gameplay in Resident Evil 4 Remake is fast, frenetic, and terrifying, especially in the early game. You start with a pistol, ten rounds of ammunition, and a knife. Leon moves and responds well as you control him, nothing feels slow or sluggish, but movement does have a weight to it. Instead of the typical third-person shooter where you’re running around frantically spraying bullets as fast as your finger can pull the trigger, combat requires some extra consideration. Ammunition is scarce, so the spray-and-pray approach that you may take in other shooters doesn’t work in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’ll be out of ammo quickly with hordes of enemies closing in on you, and no way to defend yourself. You have to make every shot count and aim for the head as often as possible. Because headshots do the most damage, they can save you ammo by helping you kill enemies more quickly. But on the flip side, enemies are responsive and move quickly instead of just letting you blow their heads off, so going for a headshot can be a risky proposition that could end up costing you ammo instead of saving it depending on your level of aim. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz2VnTchK-w&ab_channel=SwiftyUnknown&embedable=true It’s easy to say that you’ll be able to clear out a horde of enemies before you experience the intense combat situations the game throws at you. But when you’re standing in the middle of a village and a man with a chainsaw is running at you and screaming, and you need to reload your weapon, or you realize that you just ran out of ammo, you can start to panic. That panic can make you try and retreat frantically to a place that you think is safe, only to be grabbed from behind by someone that you didn’t see in your haste to get away and lead to you losing health, or even your life, and having to start over from a checkpoint. Stealth is also a large factor in the gameplay. Leon has a knife that he can use to damage enemies whether through a frontal assault or by sneaking around and taking them out quietly. Stealth allows you to preserve precious ammunition and get through some sections potentially unseen. But you have to be careful because Leon’s knife has a durability meter, so using it will cause the knife to degrade and eventually break. So you’ll either have to get a new one or repair the knife you already have, which can cost some of the resources you use to upgrade your weapons and gear. . In the original, the gameplay was tight and responsive for that period, but nearly two decades later it doesn’t feel fluid and responsive anymore. When aiming and shooting as Leon in the original you’re stuck in place and can’t move. You have to find a good spot to try and engage your enemies, aim toward them, and start firing. All the while hoping that you’ll be able to hit all of your shots and prevent your enemies from sneaking up on you, or rushing you to take a big chunk out of your health because you can’t dodge enemy attacks when your weapon is drawn. I love the changes that Capcom made to the gameplay when remaking Resident Evil 4 In the Remake, you can move around as much as you want even when you’re in combat, and that gives you a huge advantage over your enemies. It feels so good to be able to dodge out of the way of incoming projectiles like axes and planks of wood. Or to be able to quickly disengage your enemies and run away when you notice that someone has lobbed a stick of dynamite in your general direction. Being able to move during combat seems like such a small change, but it feels so good and enhances the gameplay in so many ways that I can’t imagine ever going back to the original. Boss fights especially benefit from this. The Jack Krauser fight in particular shines because of the gameplay tweaks. In the original Resident Evil 4, the Krauser fight was a glorified quick time event. If you pressed whatever button was on the screen fast enough, eventually you’d win. There wasn’t much thought or strategy to it, just button-mashing. In the Remake, you have to quickly be able to parry, dodge, and respond to Krauser and his strikes. You’re an active participant in the fight instead of feeling like a bystander that only pushes buttons to win, and it feels so much better than the original ever did. Resident Evil 4 Remake Crafting: Like other Resident Evil games, Resident Evil 4 Remake has a crafting system that lets you combine items to make something useful. Different herbs can be combined to make more powerful healing items. Gunpowder and resources can be combined to make different types of ammunition. Several possibilities allow gamers to tailor their playstyle to their liking based on the weapons they choose to buy and upgrade, and how they like to dispatch their enemies. The crafting in Resident Evil 4 Remake feels so much better to me than crafting did in the original because the system is much more robust. In the original Resident Evil 4, the most you could do was combine herbs in a few variations to create different healing items. In the Remake, you’re able to combine herbs, but also Gunpowder, and Resources to create ammunition for weapons. And the crafting trees are extremely streamlined, so it’s easy to understand what you’ll be crafting when mixing different items. Sound Design: The audio design in Resident Evil 4 Remake is immaculate. The reports of your weapons as you pull the trigger and they fire are incredible, every weapon sounds distinct, powerful, and deadly. The audio design is so strong that you can even hear the bullets impacting their targets if you have headphones on, and the sound of the impact is enough to make you wince and imagine that you’re feeling the blows yourself. Walking around the environments in Resident Evil 4 Remake is a treat because of the audio design. Leaves and trees rustle in the wind, gravel, and bones crunch underfoot, doors creak and groan as you open and close them and they all serve to immerse you in the place you’re inhabiting at that moment, terrifying as it can be. Enemies moan and groan as you walk around, alerting you to their presence, or they start screaming right behind you as they grab you and shock you because you had no idea anyone was there just a second before. The game’s soundtrack heightens the intensity by constantly managing to match the action on-screen, while also providing original tracks that tastefully represent the culture of Spain where the game is set. For me personally, the audio experience in Resident Evil 4 is some of the best that gaming has seen in years, right up there with Battlefield 5, the remake of Dead Space, and 2022’s Modern Warfare 2. The audio design is immersive, and the way it’s layered throughout the world is so clever and nuanced that it adds to the experience. Comparing it to the original Resident Evil 4 doesn’t feel fair because of how weak the original’s sound design feels compared to the Remake. Resident Evil 4 Remake Graphics Review The visual upgrade in Resident Evil 4 Remake is astounding. Everything in the game is so vividly detailed it’s amazing. The environments are richly detailed and painstakingly put together, and it shows, because of how lived-in the entire world feels. Walking through villages makes you feel like people genuinely live and work there because of the little details about the homes that signify their occupants' personalities. The enemies are gruesome to look at and become even more so after they take damage from Leon and his weapons. Limbs start to fall off, and holes appear in bodies. If explosions happen near an enemy, you can see their torso separated from the lower half of their body and watch them crawl around on the ground, with blood leaking from their entrails before they die. Heads pop with a satisfying spurt of blood when you land a headshot, knives send blood spurting through the air when you plunge one into the neck of an enemy and violently pull it out before sending them tumbling to the ground in a pool of blood. I found a striking difference when comparing the visuals of the Remake to the visuals of the original game because of how detailed and grotesque they are. Instead of blood pooling awkwardly underneath enemies and animations feeling stiff, blood leaking out of bodies looks hyperrealistic at times. Boss encounters are especially well done, with multiple transformations that take place and showcase just how gruesome and grotesque Resident Evil 4 can be when it’s firing on all cylinders. Heads start turning to the side and snapping, exposing broken bones and blood. Limbs break, and enemies start shambling towards you, typically with substances oozing from their bodies that splatter all over you and the environment. It cannot be understated how fantastic of a job Capcom did remaking this game for modern consoles. I love what Capcom did with the Graphics in Resident Evil 4 Remake, and I’m so excited to play the game again in VR in the future so I can analyze all of the visual details from a first-person perspective. The graphical upgrades enhanced my enjoyment of the game in every way because they made me feel more immersed in the events of Leon’s story, and more horrified at every new traumatic twist and turn. when it releases for the PSVR 2 Story The story in Resident Evil 4 Remake is surprisingly even better than the original. It’s well-told, well-scripted, well-acted, and well-paced, always managing to keep the tension and intensity high while making sure to add new details that weren’t in the original. Characters like Ada Wong, Luis Sera, and one of the major antagonists all get additional dialogue that fleshes their characters out and explains their backstories to make more sense of their reasons for being involved in the events of the game. And it’s wonderful because now Luis doesn't feel like someone that’s out of place,  and a major villain doesn’t feel like someone purely added in as an 80s action movie stereotype. As a gamer, I focus more on storytelling than gameplay. I can excuse some pretty bad or mediocre gameplay as long as the game is telling a fantastic story, and Resident Evil 4 has one of the best stories of the last few years gaming-wise. The writing is sharp and witty, but funny at the same time. Leon is a tragic and traumatized character after the events of Resident Evil 2. His near-death experiences shaped the way that he sees the world and informed his now at times extremely sarcastic personality that shows when he’s having conversations with characters like Ashley and Luis. Without the writing is so strong, I wouldn’t have been as invested in the game as I was. The story was tightly paced, gripping, and extremely well told, and the mystery made me want to keep playing just one more chapter by keeping me on the edge of my seat with suspense. Fear Levels: Fear is a subjective thing, some people scare easily, and some people don’t scare at all. Resident Evil 4 Remake does a wonderful job of offering something for everyone. Jump scares are in the game, and some people may find them the worst and or weakest kind of scare, but some people love and adore them because of the rush or the chill that they can provide. Other people prefer a thick atmosphere of tension and dread, and Resident Evil 4 Remake provides that easily with its high-quality enemy and encounter design and long stretches of puzzle solving. Because even when it’s quiet in Resident Evil 4 Remake and you think that you’re alone and out of combat, there’s no guarantee that you’re safe. An enemy can come up and hit you out of nowhere and either take a good chunk of your health away or kill you together. Resident Evil 4 can also be just as terrifying in combat, because you can get tunnel vision and focus on the enemy, or groups of enemies in front of you. That tunnel vision can lead to you forgetting to check your surroundings and being attacked from behind, or from the sides, and when you have a chainsaw-wielding maniac with a bag on his head charging at you, it’s hard enough to stay calm. But having that chainsaw-wielding maniac charging at you while someone has grabbed you from behind and they’re trying to hold you in place so you can get cut in two heightens that terror. Resident Evil 4 Remake does a fantastic job of consistently heightening the tension of the encounters you’re experiencing as a player. . But it has been a long time since a game was able to engage me the way that Resident Evil 4 Remake has when it comes to eliciting a fear response. I’m used to playing First Person Shooters where Ammo is plentiful like Doom Eternal or Call of Duty Vanguard. Not games like Resident Evil 4 where ammunition is scarce. Every time I missed a shot I felt it in my chest because there would be a pang of anxiety as the enemies that were trying to kill me would inch closer and closer to me. I’d be mentally beating myself up for missing shots because that meant I’d wasted resources in terms of ammunition and healing items if the enemies got close enough to hurt me. The audio design was constantly creepy, and more than enough to make my palms start to sweat from anxiety and keep them sweating for the duration of my playtime. There are a lot of survival horror games out there Final Thoughts Resident Evil 4 Remake is a fantastic game that meets the high bar set by the original and then exceeds it in many ways. The action of the gameplay is fast, frenetic, and brutal. The moment-to-moment gameplay is suspenseful because you never know whether you’ll be in a shootout, solving a puzzle, or learning more about the world you’re inhabiting through dialogue or environmental design. Tension is high throughout, and Resident Evil 4 Remake never takes its foot off the gas when it gets its hooks into you.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Review: A Horror Classic Reimagined

Problem Residential proxies have a lot of useful applications, such as web scraping, online research, bypassing geo-restrictions and anonymous browsing. But, they can be expensive, with some charging more than $100 a month for access to over 10 GB of data. Last year, when I was travelling to India and other parts of Southeast Asia, I wanted a reliable way which would let me access content on various subscription services like Netflix and Amazon Prime without geo-restrictions. I wanted to do this while Not having to pay more than $100 per month for VPN/residential proxy service. Also, Netflix would occasionally block me when using VPN. Not paying an additional amount for a static IP for my home internet connection back in the US. Solution I discovered a solution by creating my own residential proxy on my home desktop in the US. By setting up a peer-to-peer(P2P) VPN and connecting my laptop and desktop to it, I was able to route the traffic of my laptop in India to my desktop in the US, which then forwarded these requests to www/public internet before returning the response from my home network. All this without having to go through the hassle of setting up connection forwarding configuration in my home router. What is a P2P VPN Peer-to-peer(P2P) is an architecture model for VPNs used to create a secure shared environment for users. A P2P based VPN differs from the standard hub-and-spoke model by not routing all traffic through a central server, avoiding congestion. This improves security and allows for more efficient scaling by adding nodes without overburdening the network. Additionally, connections in a P2P VPN utilize the quickest path, reducing delays. There a multiple open-source, freemium and paid P2P VPN solutions available. Tinc is one of popular open-source VPN. How does the network setup look? The network stack consists of the following components: Desktop at home (US) My laptop (Outside US) P2P vpn daemon running on both machine via same account Http proxy server running on the desktop The diagram below depicts the flow of information to retrieve a public webpage from my laptop outside of the US. I wanted a P2P VPN which is easy to setup and requires near-zero config. I ended up using tailscale. The steps below are mostly generic for any VPN but you may find this most suitable if using tailscale. Steps taken to setup this network : Setting up the vpn client on desktop and laptop Download and install VPN client on desktop and laptop. If using a zero-config VPN, register your account with vpn and sign-in on both the machines with the same account : Setting up a forward http proxy server on desktop You can use any open source proxy server. I used https://github.com/abhinavsingh/proxy.py as it was easy to set up. I ran it within a docker container. The docker image for this proxy is available on docker hub.  To run it within a docker container you can execute this command docker run -it -p 8899:8899 --rm abhinavsingh/proxy.py:latest In the command above, the proxy server is listening on port 8899. This will be useful when we specify the url of proxy server in the applications within the laptop : After installing and signing into your VPN account, lets figure out the ip address of the desktop which will be used by the laptop to forward its http requests . Identify the ip address of desktop in the VPN network For this, you can list the ip addresses for all the network interfaces on the desktop. Then identify the ip address for an interface whose name starts with the name of your VPN client, for my case, it starts with “tailscale”. Umbrella captures Claire and imprisons her on Rockfort Island, where, surprise surprise, a T-Virus outbreak is occurring. Claire teams up with Steve Burnside, a former Umbrella employee, to escape the island. The games start getting pretty plot-heavy, but the basic rundown is that a new villain, Alfred Ashford, has created the T-Veronica virus while our secondary villain, Albert Wesker, has mutated into a superhuman with intentions to snag a sample of the T-Veronica virus from Ashford. Ultimately, Wesker successfully retrieves the sample he needs while Claire and Chris are reunited. 7. Resident Evil 4 January 11, 2005 Release Date: Fall 2004 Date of Events: Everyone’s favorite RE game and a game that is frequently brought up in the “greatest games of all time” discussion. It’s even ranked as number 30 on , not too shabby. Even if you elect to not play all the Resident Evil games, much less in order, definitely check this one out. This globe-trotting group is now the world’s first line of defense against the bioweapon terror sweeping the globe. I guess it only took a decade to figure out what to do about these outbreaks, huh. Our classic characters, Jill and Chris, spearhead BSAA operations, and overall this game establishes the T-Abyss virus. Try to keep up with all the zombie virus variants if you can. 9. Resident Evil 5 March 5, 2009 Release Date: March 2009 Date of Events: Now a part of the BSAA, Chris Redfield is tasked with taking down a black market bioweapon dealer in Africa. In yet another double-cross, it is discovered that Tricell, the organization funding BSAA, is now partnered with Wesker and supporting Umbrella’s illegal activities. That Wesker guy sure knows how to cut a deal! Also, it is revealed that Wesker is actually an Umbrella bioweapon tasked with wiping out all humans that are not fit for survival in a zombie world. What a guy! Wesker is ultimately killed by Chris Redfield. Don’t ever try to fight a guy who can punch through a literal boulder. Seriously. 10. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 February 24, 2015 - March 17, 2015 Release Date: 2011 Date of Events: Revelations 2 is a bit more of a standalone in the series, with Claire Redfield back into the spotlight. This time, Claire is working with another bioterror prevention agency named TerraSave. As a standalone story, this game gives us another look at what Claire and Barry Burton are up to and establishes TerraSave. At the end of this episodic series, Claire learns that her brother is in China, setting the stage for Resident Evil 6. 11. Umbrella Corps June 21, 2016 Release Date: March 12 - November 20, 2012 Date of Events: Even as one of the worst games in the series, Umbrella Corp adds a bit more to the whole Resident Evil story. However, should you choose to play all the Resident Evil games in order, this is one you can easily skip. In short, Umbrella Corps is the new branch of Umbrella that is making up for its past misdeeds by working with the BSAA to clean up its mistakes. A little too late if you ask me. The game also implies that Wesker did not die at the end of Resident Evil 5. 12. Resident Evil 6 October 2, 2021 Release Date: December 24-25, 2012 Date of Events: RE6 is where everything comes together, and we have the first game with almost every major protagonist present and playable. And it is a really messy and convoluted story as a consequence! The majority of Resident Evil 6 focuses on the global efforts to contain the new C-Virus. Chris is still working with the BSAA, Leon is still getting played by Ada Wong. Ada Wong is actually two people; one is the real Ada, while the fake Ada is actually a bioweapon. Ethan manages to find his wife; however, at the end of the game, the real hero is Chris Redfield, who destroys this game’s biochemical threat and is now operating under the Blue Umbrella corporation. Blue Umbrella still largely remains a mystery in the RE universe. 14. Resident Evil Village May 7, 2021 Release Date: February 8-10, 2021 Date of Events: Village is a continuation of Ethan’s story. While still honoring the previously established lore with the inclusion of the BSAA and Chris Redfield, Village looks more towards the franchise's future. Village is still fresh; it was recently released in May of last year. I will keep details light, as this game is worth your time. Village opens up with Ethan and his wife, Mia, now living in a remote village somewhere in eastern Europe with their newborn daughter. One night, Chris Redfield storms the house, kills Mia, and takes Ethan's daughter away. Now it is up to Ethan to figure out what in the world is happening. Also, there are vampires and werewolves now due to the mold and Cadou parasite. Resident Evil now has Underworld vibes. I’ll take it. Do You Need to Play ALL the Resident Evil Games in Order? That just about wraps up every Resident Evil game in order up to this point. It can be a lot to sit through at a grand total of 14 games, and not everyone is so inclined to play each one. If Resident Evil interests you but you don’t want to take on the daunting task of playing them in order, go ahead and play whichever interests you the most. The great writers at Capcom have ensured that despite having a long connected plot across the whole series, each game can still stand as an independent story that you can enjoy even with limited knowledge of the series. I jumped in during the BSAA era of RE5, only going back to play the Racoon City era games much later, and I never felt like I missed too much of the overall plot. Some mysteries still remain, like whether or not Wesker is truly dead, the status of Ada Wong, and why there is still no bow tie on the storylines of Leon, Claire, Jill, and Billy Burton. Resident Evil Re:Verse, the PvP multiplayer game experience previously planned to launch alongside Resident Evil Village, has been delayed for the second time. Capcom confirmed the news this week with an announcement on the official Resident Evil . website Previously, the multiplayer game experience was planned for a . Now, it's slated for a 2022 launch. No exact date or month were given, and 2022 is a fairly vague period of time. July 2021 release Per the Resident Evil Re:Verse Team: "The previously announced launch of Resident Evil Re:Verse for July 2021 is being moved to 2022, so that the team can continue working to deliver a smooth gameplay experience. We will share more details on the launch details at a later time. Thank you for your patience and understanding." "For players who purchased a physical version of Resident Evil Village, we recommend that you keep track of the included Resident Evil Re:Verse download code, or add it to your account now so that you are ready to play when it launches next year." So, the bad news is that this is another setback for players who were eager to try this new online multiplayer experience for the Resident Evil franchise. The good news? Capcom didn't rush a broke, unplayable game experience onto the market. Far too often have fans been forced to play unpolished and unfinished game products that did not have enough time in the oven. Based on Capcom's own statement, the game was ready for release. So, time and steps are being taken to polish and improve the gameplay experience. Is it unfortunate that the game has publicly been delayed twice? Yes, but releasing an awful, broken gameplay experience would be far worse. Resident Evil Re:Verse Receives Second Delay Now, Capcom would definitely be wise in the future to not put a firm release date or period on a game title like this unless they are fairly positive they can meet that window. More AAA devs and publishers should be doing that. Or, even if they have a firm release date, if the game just isn't working and not ready for release, it's time to suck it up and make the hard choice to delay a game. CD Projekt RED sullied the company's reputation and made themselves look terrible with the poor launch of Cyberpunk 2077. Anthem was an embarrassing launch for BioWare and EA. Over the years, I've become less impatient about a game release's date. I'd rather wait a longer amount of time for a game experience that's more well-rounded, polished, and exceptional than getting a rushed, rough product or some sort of live service. Yes, I want to play the new game now, but I also want an exceptional product. Also, I think there's nothing wrong with getting demo experiences in the hands of players either, so maybe problems can be spotted early in case there are any. Good game development takes time. Also, if it means not forcing the day-to-day developers into a harsh crunch period, then a longer wait time is a sacrifice I'm willing to deal with. The announcement also indicates that Capcom will honor the Re:Verse download code experience for Village players. Re:Verse is a free experience for Resident Evil Village players on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One. PS4 & PS5 gamers with PlayStation Plus membership will also have access to the online-only multiplayer version, along with Xbox Live Gold membership owners for Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Now, these two massive franchises are going to crossover, with popular Resident Evil characters joining Dead by Daylight as playable characters. Here’s what you need to know about Dead by Daylight’s new killer and characters. Dead By Deadlight New Killer: Nemesis Nemesis made his first appearance in Resident Evil 3 as the terrifying monster hunting down the game’s main character, Jill Valentine. His sole purpose is to find and kill the STARS police team. Now, Nemesis’ purpose is to hunt and kill the Dead by Daylight survivors. His tall physique and his disfigured face make for a terrifying image as you and your friends try to escape. New Dead by Daylight Characters But apart from a Resident Evil character appearing as a killer, two of the most prominent Resident Evil characters will also be available as playable characters; Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy. Jill Valentine first made her appearance in the original Resident Evil game, as a member of the STARS elite force, along with Chris Redfield. They become trapped in a mansion filled with zombies, which they have to escape. Leon S. Kennedy wouldn’t show up until Resident Evil 2, as a new police officer in Raccoon City. The city soon becomes infested with zombies, and Leon is forced to escape. Both Leon and Jill have experience having to escape from monsters, so their inclusion in Dead by Daylight makes sense as that’s the whole point of the game. The beta test was supposed to run through April 10 for gamers on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. However, had to suspend the demo shortly after it began due to suffering from matchmaking issues. Last month Games Radar reports In Re:Verse, players will be able to take part in four-to-six-person survival horror revenge matches using various characters from the Resident Evil Series. After a character dies, their body becomes a bioweapon, which can be used against other players to earn more points. Resident Evil Village Release Still on Track for May 7 Hopefully, the issues plaguing Re:Verse will be fixed before the extra multiplayer game experience finally launches. While the delay is unfortunate, it's better to hold it back and release the multiplayer game when it's ready than to release it as broken. Furthermore, it would be regrettable if the recent momentum and goodwill that's been gained from the franchises' more recent successes were marred by a broken launch for the Re:Verse experience. The good news is that Resident Evil Village is still on target for its May 2021 release. Also, Re:Verse will still be a free experience for Resident Evil Village owners. Monday, March 22 marks the 25th anniversary of the original Resident Evil game. To celebrate the occasion, Capcom shared some new details on the next main installment for the series, Resident Evil Village, which launches later this May. Per , a new Resident Evil Showcase event will be held in April, and there will also be an open beta test for the upcoming multiplayer experience Resident Evil Re:Verse. Capcom Resident Evil Showcase will be a digital event in April that will reveal new game details on Resident Evil Village. The event will showcase new game content and also some 25th anniversary news as well. The exact date and time for the digital event will be revealed at a later time. The open beta test for Resident Evil Re:Verse will start on April 7 at 11:00 pm PDT and will run through April 10 at 10:59 pm PDT. Gamers on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam will be able to participate in the open beta test. Additionally, players who participated in the earlier closed beta test and still have the game installed on their hardware will be able to play with a game update once the beta is live. New players can pre-load the open beta content starting on April 5. The open beta test will require a Capcom ID in order to play. Resident Evil Village Digital, Deluxe, & Collector’s Edition Releases Additionally, the game will be available with Digital Standard and Deluxe Editions across all platforms, along with Physical Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s Editions for console players. This week, Netflix announced that the previously revealed CG anime series based on the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, will see the return of Nick Apostolides and Stephanie Panisello in their respective roles of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield from the 2019 Resident Evil 2 Remake. New artwork and stills were also revealed for the film this week. Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is an original CG anime series that will launch on Netflix later this year. TMS Entertainment is leading the production, and Kei Miyamoto is heading up the 3DCG animation for Quebico. The new teaser artwork shows Leon S. Kennedy pictured in a bit of a new look with a formal suit, while Claire is searching for something with a flashlight. It also depicts a horde of zombies heading toward the White House.
