Between the Digital Marketing course and the coaching program I’m doing atm, I haven’t had the time to sit down and write a proper article. Instead, here’s a medley of thoughts about Love, The Mind, and Being that have been bouncing around in my head. What Is Love? , rings a remix of the ‘90s band Haddaway’s single on my Instagram feed. What is love? Baby don’t hurt me don’t hurt me no more So, what love? Is it when a baby doesn’t hurt you? is The love we hear about in songs or see in movies isn’t love. It’s an attachment. Attachment and exploitation of a love object. What can the object give me? Attention, time, sex… but in the real world, we soon find the other person can’t do that for us, and the fear creeps in—the fear of losing the object that provides the illusion of love. Instead of facing the reality of unfulfilled expectations, we simultaneously try to fix ourselves so that the person finds us loveable and adjusts the person to fit our preferred criteria. , then we’d be happy; we would feel loved. We get tricked into believing love can be outsourced. So, the fear of losing the love object that provides the illusion of love begins to enter. When we don’t love ourselves, looking for love on the outside always gives us anxiety. “Will they like me?” is the focus, whilst the real question is do I like myself? If they were just a little more to our liking . . Love is a state, not a feeling. Love is independent of love objects. Love is free. It is always there, patiently waiting to be uncovered. It’s a state you began in and will die in. Love is an energy that cannot be created or destroyed. You don’t need to generate love, find love, or get love. It can only be gently uncovered behind the layers of conditioning put upon your heart. The paradox is that no one can give you love - you cannot get love; you can only LOVE. This is an important distinction ❤️ Stuff Like This ; your mind whispers when you dare to dream beyond the confines you’ve been placed within. But what if it does happen? What if it’s right there, waiting for you to see through the lies of your mind? What if all sorts of things happen to all sorts of people, including you? Your mind is just telling you a story based on past experiences. It pretends to grasp the entirety of everything: how the world operates, what other people are like, and what you are like. (Seriously, ask your mind anything, and it’ll come up with a response! - how silly is that? It’ll never say, gosh, I don’t know, and leave it at that. It’ll begin wondering and try to figure out a response to soothe itself that it does know everything). It claims to have all the answers when, in reality, it’s barely scratching the surface. Stuff like this doesn’t happen to people like me We cling to the illusion of self-knowledge, yet the truth is we don’t fully understand why we are the way we are. Sure, we concoct explanations and reasons—neatly logical delusions—but at the core, we simply exist as we are, inexplicable even to ourselves. And the mind? It can’t accept this mystery. Here’s another annoying feature of the mind Have you ever noticed how, when you ignore a certain thought or narrative, your mind scrambles to find something else to occupy you with? It will use to reel you back in. When you feel restless, it’s your mind bouncing around, desperate to divert your focus away from the present back to itself. The mind thrives on your attention; it feeds off it. And we feed it generously, distracted from the now, lost in thoughts of past hurts and stories. anything The more intense the emotion tied to a particular memory, the more your mind returns to that story. It never goes back to the happiest moment of your life over and over again as much as it revisits the moments of hurt, unfairness, and sadness.   These negative experiences have a stronger gravitational pull for evolutionary reasons, but it doesn’t mean we should leave it at that. Happiness only exists in the present moment. I know it’s such a cliche, but seriously - where is your past, right now? Where is it? It’s in your fucking mind, obstructing you from being here, right now, as you are. The only way these stories stay alive is if you keep feeding them your attention. Oh, yes, you do. When we say we don’t have control over our attention, what we really mean is that we haven’t trained a skill of controlled attention. But I don’t control my attention… The good news is that attention is a trainable skill,  but the bad thing is that it takes effort. It requires overcoming the automaticity of your mind. It’s tough! I’m going through this training right now with the coaching course I’m doing, and it’s painfully obvious how automated every aspect of my being is. One of the practices we’re supposed to do daily is a 15-minute contemplation exercise. I won’t go into the details, but my mind would literally do nothing else but concentrate. It brings stuff I haven’t thought of in , to escape focusing for 15 minutes. considerable years anything In fact, I sat down to do the exercise but ended up editing this article! This is the state of affairs of my mind, and most minds, I’d argue, is that 15 minutes out of 16 hours that we are awake is too much for the mind to handle. We have close to 0 control of that freak inside our heads. If this isn’t scary, I don’t know what is 🤷‍♀️ Poem The happiness of being I lay on the grass on a sunny Sunday afternoon Looking at the sky, expecting something new When a thought suddenly arises Maybe I’m not supposed to believe in disguises? Society is a construct to keep the flock together But finding happiness requires disconnecting from the fear of separating from others, Even in a stormy weather. The storm inside borne out of separation Holds the key to the kingdom of creation Endless moments of being here and now Forever giving, gifting, leading, leaving The True Self you were never without. . . An open, vibrant internet is indispensable to American life. But today’s internet would not exist without the digital advertising revenue that, as a practical matter, funds its creation and expansion. The internet provides the public with unprecedented access to ideas, artistic expression, news, commerce, and services. Content creators span every conceivable industry; they publish diverse material on countless websites that inform, entertain, and connect society in vital ways. Yet the viability of many of these websites depends on their ability to sell digital advertising space. Just as newspaper, radio, and television organizations historically relied on advertising to fund their operations, today’s online publishers likewise rely on advertising revenue to support their activities and reach. But unlike historical media advertising, today’s online ads are bought and sold in enormous volumes in mere fractions of a second, using highly sophisticated tools and automated exchanges that more closely resemble a modern stock exchange than an old-fashioned, bilateral contract negotiation for newspaper ad space. 2. Website publishers in the United States sell more than 5 trillion digital display advertisements on the open web each year—or more than 13 billion advertisements every day. The sheer volume of these online ads make the offline advertisements of yesteryear pale in comparison. To put these numbers in perspective, the daily volume of digital display advertisements grossly outnumbers (by several multiples) the average number of stocks traded each day on the New York Stock Exchange. The digital display advertising business is also lucrative. Collectively, these advertisements generate more than $20 billion in revenue per year, just for publishers based in the United States. 3. To meet this demand, sophisticated technological tools, informally known as “ad tech,” have developed to automate advertising matchmaking between two key groups: website publishers and advertisers. [1] These tools have evolved such that today, every time an internet user opens a webpage with ad space to sell, ad tech tools almost instantly match that website publisher with an advertiser looking to promote its products or services to the website’s individual user. This process typically involves the use of an automated advertising exchange that runs a high-speed auction designed to identify the best match between a publisher selling internet ad space and the advertisers looking to buy it. 4. But competition in the ad tech space is broken, for reasons that were neither accidental nor inevitable. One industry behemoth, Google, has corrupted legitimate competition in the ad tech industry by engaging in a systematic campaign to seize control of the wide swath of high-tech tools used by publishers, advertisers, and brokers, to facilitate digital advertising. Having inserted itself into all aspects of the digital advertising marketplace, Google has used anticompetitive, exclusionary, and unlawful means to eliminate or severely diminish any threat to its dominance over digital advertising technologies. 5. Google’s plan has been simple but effective: (1) neutralize or eliminate ad tech competitors, actual or potential, through a series of acquisitions; and (2) wield its dominance across digital advertising markets to force more publishers and advertisers to use its products while disrupting their ability to use competing products effectively. Whenever Google’s customers and competitors responded with innovation that threatened Google’s stranglehold over any one of these ad tech tools, Google’s anticompetitive response has been swift and effective. Each time a threat has emerged, Google has used its market power in one or more of these ad tech tools to quash the threat. The result: Google’s plan for durable, industry-wide dominance has succeeded. 6. Google, a single company with pervasive conflicts of interest, now controls: (1) the technology used by nearly every major website publisher to offer advertising space for sale; (2) the leading tools used by advertisers to buy that advertising space; and (3) the largest ad exchange that matches publishers with advertisers each time that ad space is sold. Google’s pervasive power over the entire ad tech industry has been questioned by its own digital advertising executives, at least one of whom aptly begged the question: “[I]s there a deeper issue with us owning the platform, the exchange, and a huge network? The analogy would be if Goldman or Citibank owned the NYSE.” 7. By deploying opaque rules that benefit itself and harm rivals, Google has wielded its power across the ad tech industry to dictate how digital advertising is sold, and the very terms on which its rivals can compete. Google abuses its monopoly power to disadvantage website publishers and advertisers who dare to use competing ad tech products in a search for higher quality, or lower cost, matches. Google uses its dominion over digital advertising technology to funnel more transactions to its own ad tech products where it extracts inflated fees to line its own pockets at the expense of the advertisers and publishers it purportedly serves. 8. Google’s anticompetitive behavior has raised barriers to entry to artificially high levels, forced key competitors to abandon the market for ad tech tools, dissuaded potential competitors from joining the market, and left Google’s few remaining competitors marginalized and unfairly disadvantaged. Google has thwarted meaningful competition and deterred innovation in the digital advertising industry, taken supra-competitive profits for itself, and prevented the free market from functioning fairly to support the interests of the advertisers and publishers who make today’s powerful internet possible. 9. The harm is clear: website creators earn less, and advertisers pay more, than they would in a market where unfettered competitive pressure could discipline prices and lead to more innovative ad tech tools that would ultimately result in higher quality and lower cost transactions for market participants. And this conduct hurts all of us because, as publishers make less money from advertisements, fewer publishers are able to offer internet content without subscriptions, paywalls, or alternative forms of monetization. One troubling, but revealing, statistic demonstrates the point: on average, Google keeps at least thirty cents—and sometimes far more—of each advertising dollar flowing from advertisers to website publishers through Google’s ad tech tools. Google’s own internal documents concede that Google would earn far less in a competitive market. 10. The United States and Plaintiff States bring this action for violations of the Sherman Act to halt Google’s anticompetitive scheme, unwind Google’s monopolistic grip on the market, and restore competition to digital advertising. The cause of the error is very simple. Phileas Fogg had, without suspecting it, gained one day on his journey, and this merely because he had travelled constantly he would, on the contrary, have lost a day had he gone in the opposite direction, that is, . eastward; westward In journeying eastward he had gone towards the sun, and the days therefore diminished for him as many times four minutes as he crossed degrees in this direction. There are three hundred and sixty degrees on the circumference of the earth; and these three hundred and sixty degrees, multiplied by four minutes, gives precisely twenty-four hours—that is, the day unconsciously gained. In other words, while Phileas Fogg, going eastward, saw the sun pass the meridian times, his friends in London only saw it pass the meridian times. How do you document infrastructure failures and outages? Post-mortem discipline: a way to document serious problems At the very beginning of my career, I familiarised myself with the post-mortem practice. After each large outage (fortunately, they were really rare), we created a document describing the nature and first occurrence of an outage, our course of action, and outcomes. Post-mortems were finalized with a follow-up section indicating plans and Jira tickets to prevent similar events in the future. You can familiarise yourself with a typical structure of a DevOps post-mortem in article, as well as with a great example . this here Our structure was similar: First occurrence and event log The course of action and responsible persons Root cause analysis Follow-ups to mitigate similar issues I really like this approach and advocate this practice to avoid recurring issues. The nature of DevOps tasks speaks for itself: the task density is so high that it’s hard to remember every workflow. In this case, post-mortems are useful to keep vital information available, introduce the experience gained for the rest of the team, as well as to onboard newcomers. More issues, less time However, when I acquired my own fields of responsibility and started to work independently, I realized very soon that my scope of work included much more issues to fix than time to document them in post-mortems. The nature of my tasks included dealing with dozens of multilayer services, each of them being quite volatile and sensitive to multiple hardware factors: network speed, free disk space, inter-service connectivity, etc. Moreover, they were based on open-source software and required constant updates to remain functional - and often, an update only brought new issues. All in all, it looks like an administrator nightmare, doesn’t it? In fact, it was not, but still, I soon realized the necessity to document how I fixed small issues of different nature. And here, I returned to the Post-Mortem workflow wondering if it can help - and adopted it. Large repair logs to solve small problems First of all, I decided to use one unified document (namely, a Confluence page) to store descriptions of all fixed issues. Since my work sometimes reminded me of Warhammer 40k Adeptus Mechanicus, I named it “ ”. And presented this document officially as a . Prayer Book: How we fixed minor issues Repair Log So, what was inside? I stuck to our Post-Mortem plan but excluded some redundant steps: namely, the first and last bullets from the plan above. The resulting structure was easy to read and could be filled in 5-10 minutes for each issue: Short description of an issue and which service it affected The root cause of the issue and, optionally, steps to reproduce The course of actions to mitigate the issue On top of this structure, I made two rules to fill the log: - Always, right after you fix an issue. When? - Short and precise, don’t highlight general issues, describe actions you took even if you are not sure they fixed the issue. How? The latter rule may surprise you, but it’s self-explanatory: sometimes, you try to fix an issue in multiple ways, and lack of time to check the outcome does not allow you to be sure what exactly solved the problem. I decided to leave such entries for future amendments. So I created a small and fast-growing version of Post-Mortems for internal use. What was the outcome? The Repair Log was appreciated by the rest of my team and started to grow. Together with Post-Mortems, this document became a vital part of our onboarding process. It is easy to read and expand, but most importantly, it remains my “second memory” when I face any issue that looks familiar. In some months, I even started to notice that the number of issues began to decrease, and nearly all of them became a part of the log. Then, I said to myself: “Probably, it’s the best solution to increase the quality of your operations with these services”. Now, I still work with them, but maintenance does not take a significant amount of time.

I don’t think that was exciting but she says it was. She tells me about all the parties and dances they used to have here long ago. Wyther Grange is bigger than New Moon and the furniture is much handsomer but it is harder to feel acquainted with it. “There are many interesting things in this house. I love to look at them. There is a Jakobite glass on a stand in the parlor. It was a glass of the Priests had long ago in Scotland and it has a thistle and a rose on it and they used it to drink Prince Charlie’s health with and for . It is a very and Aunt Nancy prizes it highly. And she has a pickled snake in a big glass jar in the china cabinet. It is hideous but fascinating. I shiver when I see it but yet I go to look at it every day. Something seems to drag me to it. Aunt Nancy has a bureau in her room with and a vase shaped like a green fish sitting up on end and a Chinese draggon with a curly tail, and a case of sweet little stuffed humming birds and a sand-glass for boiling eggs by and a framed wreath made out of the hair of all the dead Priests and lots of old dagerrotipes. But the thing I like the best of all is a great silvery shining ball hanging from the lamp in the parlour. It reflects everything like a little fairy world. Aunt Nancy calls it a gazing-ball, and says that when she is dead I am to have it. I wish she hadn’t said that because I want the ball so much that I can’t help wondering when she will die and that makes me feel wicked. I am to have the chessy-cat door knocker and her gold earrings, too. These are Murray airlooms. Aunt Nancy says the Priest airlooms must go to the Priests. I will like the chessy-cat but I don’t want the earrings. I’d rather not have people notice my ears. an old ansester no other purpose valewable airloom glass knobs “I have to sleep alone. I feel frightened but I think if I could get over being frightened I’d like it. I don’t mind the swallows now. It’s just being alone so far away from any one. And when I wake up in the night and think of a splendid line of poetry (because the things that you think of like that always seem the best) I can get right out of bed and write it right down in my Jimmy-book. I couldn’t do that at home and then by morning I’d likely forget it. I thought of such a nice line last night. “Lilies lifted pearly chaluses (a chalus is a kind of cup only more poetical) where bees were drowned in sweetness” and I felt happy because I was sure they were two better lines than any I had composed yet. “I am allowed to go into the kitchen and help Caroline cook. Caroline is a good cook but sometimes she makes a mistake and this vexes Aunt Nancy because she likes nice things to eat. The other day Caroline made the barley soup far too thick and when Aunt Nancy looked at her plate she said “Lord, is this a dinner or a poltis?” Caroline said “It is good enough for a Priest and what is good enough for a Priest is good enough for a Murray,” and Aunt Nancy said “Woman, the Priests eat of the crumbs that fall from the Murrays’ tables,” and Caroline was so mad she cried. And Aunt Nancy said to me “Emily, never marry a Priest”—just like Old Kelly, when I have no notion of marrying one of them. I don’t like any of them I’ve seen very much but they seem to me a good deal like other people. Jim is the best of them but impident. “I like the Wyther Grange breakfasts better than the New Moon breakfasts. We have toast and bacon and marmalade—nicer than porridge. “Sunday is more amusing here than at New Moon but not so holy. Nice for a change. Aunt Nancy can’t go to church or knit lace so she and Caroline play cards all day but she says I must never do it—that she is just a bad example. I love to look at Aunt Nancy’s big parlor Bible because there are so many interesting things in it—pieces of dresses and hair and poetry and old tintipes and accounts of deaths and weddings. I found a piece about my own birth and it gave me a queer feeling. “In the afternoon some of the Priests come to see Aunt Nancy and stay to supper. Leslie Priest always comes. He is Aunt Nancy’s faverite neffew, so Jim says. I think that is because he pays her compliments. But I saw him wink at Isaac Priest once when he paid her one. I don’t like him. He treats me as if I was a meer child. Aunt Nancy says terrible things to them all but they just laugh. When they go away Aunt Nancy makes fun of them to Caroline. Caroline doesn’t like it, because she is a Priest and so she and Aunt Nancy always quarrel Sunday evening and don’t speak again till Monday morning. “I can read all the books in Aunt Nancy’s bookcase except the row on the top shelf. I wonder why I can’t read them. Aunt Nancy said they were French novels but I just peeped into one and it was English. I wonder if Aunt Nancy tells lies. “The place I love best is down at bay shore. Some parts of the shore are very steep and there are such nice, woodsy, places all along it. I wander there and compose poetry. I miss Ilse and Teddy and Perry and Saucy Sal a great deal. I had a letter from Ilse today. She wrote me that they couldn’t do anything more about the Midsummer Night’s Dream till I got back. It is nice to feel so necessary. unexpected “Aunt Nancy doesn’t like Aunt Elizabeth. She called her a “tyrant” one day and then she said “Jimmy Murray was a very clever boy. Elizabeth Murray killed his intellect in her temper—and nothing was done to her. If she had killed his body she would have been a murderess. The other was worse, if you ask me.” I do not like Aunt Elizabeth at times myself but I felt, dear Father, that I must stand up for and I said “I do not want to hear such things said of my Aunt Elizabeth.” my family “And I just gave Aunt Nancy a . She said “Well, Saucebox, my brother Archibald will never be dead as long as you’re alive. If you don’t want to hear things don’t hang around when Caroline and I are talking. I notice there are plenty of things you like to hear.” look “This was sarcasm, dear Father, but still I feel Aunt Nancy likes me but perhaps she will not like me very long. Jim Priest says she is fikkle and never liked anyone, even her husband, very long. At New Moon Aunt Elizabeth won’t give me anything but cambric tea because it is best for my health. Aunt Nancy says the way to be healthy is to eat just what you want and never think about your stomach. But then she was never threttened with consumption. She says I needn’t be a bit frightened of dying of consumption because I have too much ginger in me. That is a comforting thought. The only time I don’t like Aunt Nancy is when she begins talking about the different parts of me and the effect they will have on the men. It makes me feel so silly. “I will write you oftener after this, dear Father. I feel I have been neglecting you. “P. S. I am afraid there are some mistakes in spelling in this letter. I forgot to bring my dictionary with me. “July 22. “Oh, dear Father, I am in a dreadful scrape. I don’t know what I am to do. Oh, Father, I have broken Aunt Nancy’s Jakobite glass. It seems to me like a dreadful dream. “I went into the parlor today to look at the pickled snake and just as I was turning away my sleeve caught the Jakobite glass and over it went on the harth and . At first I rushed out and left them there but afterwards I went back and carefully gathered them up and hid them in a box behind the sofa. Aunt Nancy never goes into the parlor now and Caroline not very often and perhaps they may not miss the glass until I go home. But it me. I keep thinking of it all the time and I cannot enjoy anything. I know Aunt Nancy will be furious and never forgive me if she finds out. I could not sleep all night for worrying about it. Jim Priest came down to play with me today but he said there was no fun in me and went home. The Priests mostly say what they think. Of course there was no fun in me. How could there be? I wonder if it would do any good to pray about it. A Different Kind of Happiness

They say that sometimes life can be stranger than fiction. No sh*t, all you Sherlocks out there. You know, after nine years in the good old corporate world and more than ten years in the brave new remote world, I thought I had seen and done it all. Well, I should’ve known better. My story is true through and through, and it all started with a call out of the blue. It turned out that a recruitment agency dug out my old resume. They connected the dots by checking out online what I’d been doing in the meantime. “We’re so happy and excited to inform you that the perfect role presented itself. You have the best of both worlds - corporate and remote. You should feel good about it.” What can I say, vanity took the best of me just like that. The very next day I was already admiring the view from the top software company office. It was surreal. My recruiter and the company’s CEO were throwing compliments at me left and right. “You’re the man, man. We know it. You know it.” What was my role? What was I exactly supposed to do? Well… If It’s too Good to Be True, It Certainly Is In my lousy defense, I have to admit that I neither had the time nor the desire to go through the job description - thoroughly. “You were applying and working. You were recruiting and hiring. You know the industry. You know the people. You’ll do just fine.” The contract on the office desk was staring at me the whole time. Then, it struck me. HR for Happiness?! “If you don’t mind me asking, don’t you have an HR officer already?” “We have an HR team, the whole department actually.” I was scratching my bald head and turning red. “So, this isn’t about recruiting. They’re very unhappy. I was hoping you can change that. You of all people should understand that.” “We requested that everybody has to get back to the office.” “You mean, work from home is no longer an option?!” “It was only temporary. You saw our building on your way here.” “It’s a spaceship. Really impressive.” “We ain’t renting. We own it. It’s the ten-star hotel for f*ck’s sake!” Oh, somebody is losing his temper. A golden cage is still a cage. Of course, I didn’t say that out loud. “Wouldn’t you be happy to work here? Just look around you. I just don’t get it. How could somebody be unhappy working here?” Well, once you go remote, you don’t want to get back on the office boat. Yup, I kept that one to myself too. A chef’s assistant who used to be a lead generation specialist not so long ago. She was so excited when I got the call. What am I supposed to tell her when I get back home? That I’m a man of principles while she’s paying all the bills?! “You’d be making a small personal sacrifice for a greater good.” “Sir, with all due respect, I’m afraid that I’m emotionally compromised. The Epilogue of My Mission Impossible - Remote Nation Rogue A few days later I got an email from the recruiting agency. They informed me that my resume was deleted from their database - for good. I also heard that the CEO crushed work-from-home “La Résistance” at his company by making new generous offers no sane developer could possibly refuse. My wife axed “N” from “NOMAD.” Meaning, I’m on OMAD (one-meal-a-day) diet. For how long? I guess until I find a new job. Remote or not, she doesn’t care, but I still do.

Edward Elric is the older brother, and Alphonse Elric is the younger. After they attempt to revive their mother, Edward lost one leg and Alphonse lost his body. Immediately, Edward notices the loss of Alphonse and makes another alchemy, the “Soul Transmutation”, and loses his arm to bind Alphonse’s soul in armor. He is loyal to his family and friends and has an unshakable determination. He is pushed by a need to fix his past mistakes and live well with the consequences of his actions. Alphonse, on the other hand, is more introspective. Despite being the younger, he often takes on a more mature role in their adventures. He is deeply empathetic and kind, with a strong desire to help others and make the world a better place. Edward and Alphonse are flawed and imperfect, but they possess a deep sense of empathy and a fierce commitment to doing what is right. They are the heart and soul of the series and serve as an example of the power of love, friendship, and brotherhood to overcome any kind of obstacle. The Philosopher’s Stone The Philosopher's Stone is a powerful artifact with incredible powers, including the ability to ignore the laws of equivalent exchange and perform alchemy without a transmutation circle. The stone is also believed to give eternal life. As the series progresses, it becomes clear that the Philosopher's Stone is not what it seems. Homunculus Homunculus are a type of artificial human created through alchemy by the mysterious figure known as the Father. Homunculus Against Humans The Homunculus’ motivation for starting a war against humanity is tied to their quest for the Philosopher's Stone. They are immortal as long as they have access to the stone's power. The Homunculus believe that they are superior to humans and that they have the right to rule over them. They seek to acquire the Philosopher's Stone to consolidate their power and achieve their goal of world domination. To obtain the Philosopher's Stone, the Homunculus manipulate events and people, often using violent and ruthless means. They are willing to sacrifice innocent lives to achieve their goals, which puts them at odds with the protagonists of the series, including the Elric brothers and their allies. Pursuit of Happiness The Elric brothers' pursuit of the Philosopher's Stone is linked to their pursuit of happiness, but it also raises important questions about what true happiness is. For the Elric brothers, the journey to obtain the Philosopher's Stone is as important as the objective itself. They are driven by a desire to restore their bodies. Reciprocity and Gratitude Another line of philosophy we can find in FMA is "reciprocity and gratitude", as the characters frequently help others and recognize the value of working together to achieve their goals. The anime teaches that helping others is not only a duty but also a means of finding happiness and satisfaction. The concept of reciprocity can be found in Aristotle's idea of "virtue ethics." According to Aristotle, living a virtuous life involves developing good habits and acting by reason and moral principles. One of the key virtues he identified was "justice" which involves treating others fairly and giving them what they deserve. In the context of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, this means that characters are often rewarded for their good deeds and punished for their bad ones, emphasizing the importance of acting with integrity and compassion towards others. The anime also teaches the importance of gratitude, as the characters frequently express appreciation for the help and support they receive from others. For example, Edward and Alphonse are deeply grateful for the help they receive from their friends and allies, and they frequently express their thanks in heartfelt ways. Estimating the emotion probability vector LlaMa2 [2] has been released in such a way as to allow developers to access estimated token weights returned in response to a prompt. LlaMa2 has an internal vocabulary size of roughly 30,000 tokens. This means that when LlaMa 2 estimates the probability of the next token in a sequence the probability vector will have 30,000 elements. Some of the words in the emotion descriptor list are made up of more than one token in which case forward conditional probabilities are used. Figure 2.1.1 shows the scaled probability distribution over words from the emotion dictionary elicited by the tail prompt for the Amazon review text, ‘I read a lot of negative reviews about the Fitbit inspire 2, I took a chance and hoped the one I ordered would be one of the great ones that worked. Unfortunately that was not the case. I unpacked it, charged it, downloaded the app. I took a walk with it on before the sun went down. I have the Google Fit app on my phone that tracks my steps also. The phone was in my jeans pocket. When I got home I compared the two, Google Fit said 4,458 steps, Fitbit said 1,168. Apparently Fitbit works with wrist motion which I don’t have while pushing a walker around the neighborhood. I downloaded the manual and noticed you can put it on a clip (that wasn’t included). That would work for me. So I started to scroll through the different features except I couldn’t scroll through all of them. While scrolling I must have turned on the stopwatch. I couldn’t turn it off. Then I couldn’t scroll through anything except water lock feature. I had to turn on the water lock to get back to the stopwatch. Then the side buttons stopped working. I had it a total of 5 hours. I packed it up and started the Amazon return. I did get a full refund. Sensed information about the world around us has to be reconciled with our internal state and any action to be taken is chosen so as to lead to future state that seems preferable to our current state [4], where preferable means ‘my feeling is I would like to try the new state or the action possibly leading to a new state’. If we are hungry we will often choose to eat. If we are very hungry we will take greater risk to acquire food. If we are cold we will try to get warm etc. Advertising aims to convince us a course of action will lead to more happiness. Sugary carbonated drinks do not objectively lead to long term happiness but the known short term emotional response to eating sugar is desirable. Sensed data about the world is tremendously diverse, often inaccurate and incomplete and required responses have varying degrees of urgency. The arbitration engine that processes these inputs needs to naturally cope with vagueness while appearing to provide certainty internally. Emotions are the term we use to describe our experience of using this apparatus to make decisions. The phrase computers do not have emotions is often wrongly used to assert that interactive computer software running on a machine cannot ever exhibit or experience emotion. Large Language Models (LLMs) [5, 1, 2] offer a ready means of linking a chunk of text with an estimated emotional state, bridging the gap between the world of text and the realm of human emotion. LLMs have been used in focused sentiment analysis and are reported to perform adequately [6] but at the time of writing we are unaware of other researchers using probabilistic emotion dictionaries. This paper explores the intersection of LLMs and emotions, demonstrating how these models can be harnessed to estimate the emotional content of a piece of text. We present a novel approach to summarizing emotional states by constructing a dictionary of emotion-related words and calculating the probabilities of these words appearing following a prompt that includes both the original text and an emotion-eliciting tail. This methodology allows us to quantitatively assess the emotional landscape of text. To demonstrate our approach we choose a dictionary of 271 emotion describing words and estimate their probability of being associated with a sections Amazon product reviews. Limited computational resources and time means we are only in a position to publish a cursory study. It is likely that many emotion are correlated and an estimate of the dimension of emotional space may be derivable via PCA analysis on a large sample of emotion vectors. We discuss some of the limitations we encountered during experiment and some of the obstacles to producing and regulating the behaviour of emotion based synthetic consciousness. This paper is layed out as follows, section 2 details the LLM and hardware used to run it, section 2.1 details our choices of words to make up our emotion dictionary, section 2.1.1 covers estimating emotion probabilities from an LLM using a tail prompt. Section 2.1.2 shows results on Amazon reviews. A hint at the PCA structure with in emotion vectors is given in 3. Finally future directions are considered and conclusion given. To demonstrate our approach we choose a dictionary of 271 emotion describing words and estimate their probability of being associated with a sections Amazon product reviews. Limited computational resources and time means we are only in a position to publish a cursory study. It is likely that many emotion are correlated and an estimate of the dimension of emotional space may be derivable via PCA analysis on a large sample of emotion vectors. We discuss some of the limitations we encountered during experiment and some of the obstacles to producing and regulating the behaviour of emotion based synthetic consciousness. This paper is layed out as follows, section 2 details the LLM and hardware used to run it, section 2.1 details our choices of words to make up our emotion dictionary, section 2.1.1 covers estimating emotion probabilities from an LLM using a tail prompt. Section 2.1.2 shows results on Amazon reviews. A hint at the PCA structure with in emotion vectors is given in 3. Finally future directions are considered and conclusion given.

The headline might be a slight exaggeration — I'm not Elon Musk. However, I am bootstrapping a venture studio called Evernomic with a focus on the media industry. Our portfolio includes several newsletters, media brands, SaaS projects, service-based startups, high-authority websites, external contracts, and more. Evernomic is also quite a unique organization when it comes to our team and how we allocate our time and resources. Our team is now comprised of over 20 people, with the oldest being 26 years old and the average age is just over 21 years old. Such a young team has its advantages, but it also comes with the drawbacks associated with the stereotypes often held against younger people in business. At the end of the day, we don't have that chronological experience behind us, which also applies to time management. In addition, one value we all share is despising a future of becoming one-dimensional. We don't just aspire to be successful at business or any other aspect of life. We exercise and take care of our health, we spend much of our time learning new things, we like to socialize and make memories, we pay attention to how we present ourselves, and we pursue hobbies such as writing and public speaking. Now, this begs the question of how we manage our time so as not to fall behind on our responsibilities. Maintenance and Expansion Framework I have developed what I call the Maintenance and Expansion Framework. I divide my workload and things that require headspace into two categories: Maintenance: ongoing commitments requiring my continued attention on a regular basis that are necessary for me to keep going in the same trajectory. In short, these are things I must do to maintain my current progress.
Expansion: one-time or open-ended tasks that improve the overall condition of my life, whether it's in business, fitness, or happiness. This may sound controversial to openly admit, but I avoid commitments, otherwise defined as Maintenance Tasks, at all costs. That's the danger zone. It takes away from my ability to expand and take on more things when I'm faced with better opportunities in the future. I always prefer to leave some free margin to try new things, waste some time, let things go wrong without detrimental consequences, and so on. Therefore, I'm very picky with the things I commit to, and I try to minimize them. Conversely, I'm unafraid of the Expansion side of things. I can take on several things simultaneously as long as I know it will be over soon. The only decisions that truly concern me are those that lock me into a certain future. A typical day for me includes my daily routine, immediately tackling my Maintenance Tasks and later tackling three or four Expansion Tasks at a time. This division gives a game-changing order to my life. I know what the bare minimum of what I should be doing is, and it lets me focus on multiple domains within my life and business simultaneously. Collaborative Portfolio In addition to how I personally approach time management, our strategy revolves around creating a system that goes "full circle." This means that every project we take on must contribute in one way or another to other projects in our portfolio as well. I wrote a post some time ago about how, with this approach, we technically have more than 24 hours in a day because every hour we spend on one project also leads to some sort of progress for our other projects. To give you an example, we are planning on launching an ad network in the following months. What's the biggest challenge with such a business? Finding sufficient creators and advertisers to make the marketplace functional — the chicken and egg problem. Looking at companies who have been most successful at growing an ad network, such as Alphabet or Meta, they have always had at least one side of the equation satisfied prior. In Meta's case, they already had access to a large audience who were using their free products before they began rolling out advertisements. Over a year prior to our scheduled launch date, we acquired FindNewsletters.com, an authority newsletter directory. We have yet to make a penny off of this acquisition. However, we now have direct contacts with most newsletter creators, which gives us an extensive creator network to start with. Our job is now much simpler; we only need to find advertisers. Within Evernomic, we try to build similar systems and frameworks through which we push our projects that give us a streamlined and efficient approach. Moreover, tasks get delegated effectively, which minimizes commitments to low-yield tasks among our more experienced members. Naturally, focusing on so many things simultaneously has its drawbacks, too. I often fail to match deadlines, I often don't end up acting on plans I've had, and I often don't reach my goals. In fact, at any given moment, I'm probably not doing too well. However, I've learned that time has a magic of its own. Whenever I've looked back at my progress over a few months, I was pleasantly surprised. Now, I trust the process and keep pushing forward regardless.
