This is a step-by-step guide for deploying a Strapi v4 project to with managed mySql Database DigitalOcean's App Platform First, log in to your DigitalOcean account. If you don't have a DigitalOcean account you will need to create one, you can use to get $100 of free credits this referral link (opens new window) Step 1 Create a Database on Digital Ocean Databases can be created using DigitalOcean's . Managed Databases Then select your database as mySql and choose the data center Once done, click on create a database cluster Once your cluster is created, go to Getting Started section and click next. In Secure this database cluster section, add your IP showcased on Digital Ocean but do not believe it. Because Digital Ocean sucks in figuring out IP addresses. Not sure why. So go on Google search for my ip and then select your IP copy it. Then paste it in the approved section: Once done, copy your database connection details and save it securely in a file. Then go to user and database section and create another user. I will explain later why we did that. Step 2 Install Strapi v4 on your local machine This is a very simple step. Open your terminal. cd into folder where you want to install strapi v4. Then run this command: npx create-strapi-app@beta name-of-your-folder Notice we are not using --quickstart flag here, that's because we want to use managed MySQL database. After that, terminal will walk you through some steps where you have to provide the Database connection details. Once done, press enter, and it will start installing strapi v4 on your local machine. You will see something like this once the installation is done. Please do not build or run strapi server - THIS IS IMPORTANT Now cd into your strapi installation folder cd beta/ and open it in your IDE mine is VS code so I will just do it with typing code . Step 3 Configure Your Strapi Project to connect with managed database To deploy your Strapi v4 app, you will need to create a database configuration file. Step 6# Add Environment Variables and other Configurations Here, you will configure how DigitalOcean App Platform deploys your Strapi app. You can leave most things default. The only things you need to change are shown below: Whatever you named your database, here is what you should use in the environment variables. Environment Variables : Add DATABASE_URL: ${defaultdb.DATABASE_URL} Build Command : NODE_ENV=production npm run build Run Command : NODE_ENV=production npm start Step 7 Select a Database Click on the Add a Database button. We will be selecting the database we have created before. For instance, we name the database defaultdb, and we use the environment variable value: ${defaultdb.DATABASE_URL} Click "Next". How to Deploy Strapi v4 on the DigitalOcean App Platform with MySQL Database

Being myself a startup founder, I have learned that analytics is something you cannot live without. My small startup originally focused on managing local communities in England. Now we operate almost in every part of the world. Everyone starting a new business understands the basic concept of profits. If you are making more than you are spending, the difference is your profit. The bigger the difference, the more money you make. The most important question is, how do you run a profitable business? First and foremost, a profitable business sells a product that people need, use, and pay for. If you are starting a new venture, this is probably all that you think about - turning your vision into reality by building a startup product that solves customers’ problems and is worthy of their financial commitment. Secondly, an entrepreneur running a profitable business understands the key financial and analytics metrics and how they can influence profits. Those metrics are your key performance indicators (KPI). In this post, you will find nine essential metrics that you should know about and measure. Your KPIs can change as your startup grows. For instance, when you launch your startup, new registrations or activations can be an important KPI to evaluate the validation of your startup idea and viability of the solution in addressing your customers’ needs. As your startup grows, your focus may expand to KPIs like customer acquisition cost, lifetime value, and churn rate. CAC includes your expenditure on sales, marketing, and distribution activities. 3. Churn Rate Churn rate indicates the percentage of your paying customers that cancelled their purchase. This is a metric that you should aim to keep as low as possible. 4. Customer Retention Customer retention is the opposite of churn rate. It indicates the percentage of your paying customers that you retained, who renewed their subscription to your product. High retention means you are delivering the promised value to your customers and they are happy with your product. 5. Cash Flow Cash flow measures your costs versus revenue as it captures money going in and out of your business. Positive or free cash flow indicates liquidity with more money flowing into the business than out of it. 6. Return On Investment ROI or return on investment is a metric for calculating the gains or losses derived from an investment. To calculate your return on investment in a new venture, project, or initiative, divide your profits or losses by your total investment and multiply the result by 100 to get the ROI in percent. 7. Burn Rate Burn rate means the amount of capital that a startup is spending or “burning” to finance operation. The burn rate of a startup can depend on the business model, funding and growth strategy. 8. Revenue Revenue is the money that you generate through sales and is a measure of startup performance. However, in many cases, revenue is not an accurate measure of your company’s financial health as it does not take into account business expenses. 9. Net Income Your net income is the difference between your revenue and expenses. Paying close attention to your customer’s lifetime value, customer acquisition cost, churn rate, retention, cash flow, return on investment and burn rate will help you increase the difference between your revenue and expenses, thus run a profitable startup venture while understanding the key metrics that play a big role in boosting your company’s financial performance. GM has made the much-overlooked claim that by mid-decade, it expects to commercialize the most exotic of the stretch futuristic batteries currently on electric vehicle drawing boards. In remarks yesterday at Barclay’s Automotive Conference, GM CEO Mary Barra announced an explicit campaign to capture the lead in EV development from Tesla and everyone else in the industry. That included a 35% bump in EV development investment to $27 billion by 2025 and the deployment of EVs that will go up to a whopping 450 miles on a charge, farther than any of its major competitors have discussed. Usually, EV batteries are thought to be ready for showtime when they can reliably do 1,000 charge-and-discharge cycles while retaining more or less the same capacity. Getting hundreds means it’s not quite there but is seriously robust. To questions yesterday from Barclays managing director Brian Johnson, Parks said the anode would reduce the cost of GM’s batteries well below $100 per kWh, which has been another battery industry holy grail threshold. Parks seemed in fact to say that the cost of the entire battery pack, including all the weight of the various filler and junk that surrounds the individual cells, would be well below $100 per kWh, which, if true, would be stunning. In response to a question I asked in the pre-briefing about the battery’s composition, Parks said the battery’s energy density would be 1,200 watt-hours per liter, a feat that experts I later spoke with had a hard time believing. The GM battery would differ from QuantumScape’s in that it is not solid state — it uses a liquid electrolyte. Parks said there is much work left to do scaling up the battery but that “we think we are at the leading edge of this curve.” Parks did not give a precise year in the mid-decade when all this will happen nor how many vehicles will feature the anode. In a statement, a company spokesman said there would be a “phase-in of many new technology areas related to EVs, including battery chemistry.” When I queried Jeff Sakamoto, a lithium-metal researcher at the University of Michigan, he said that using a liquid electrolyte with metallic lithium would make it “tough” to achieve any more than a few hundred charge-discharge cycles — “insufficient for EVs.” He said the rough 2025 time frame seemed optimistic. “To me, most of the underlying physics works out on paper, but there are still some knowledge gaps that must be bridged before any lithium solid-state battery can be considered a viable solution, especially for EVs.” Paul Albertus, a professor at the University of Maryland, said that GM would need to start production slowly because it will probably have to change the process it’s using to manufacture its current lithium-ion chemistry. “I think there’s also an aspect of starting small to see if any surprise field failures or challenges arise — put out a small vehicle run and wait a year or two and make sure no surprises happen, that type of thing,” he said. Albertus said he wouldn’t be surprised if GM totally misses the deadline and never produces a metallic lithium battery at all. But he added that he also wouldn’t be astonished if GM succeeds. “What makes me a little more optimistic is that we know there are some very large efforts working on this now,” he said. “… With automotive batteries growing so much in the coming 10 years, there’s now motivation to tackle something of the complexity of [metallic lithium].
