It's the worst kind of quagmire because at every step it will confidently reassure you that it does, in fact, know the answer. When you insist that it's wrong, it confidently continues to provide information that sounds correct but isn't. ultimate If you use Chat GPT for programming assistance, you to develop a strong sense of when ChatGPT is making stuff up. In short, need you need to know when to bail. RTFM Sometimes we talk about "Googling things" as a skill unto itself, and it kind of is. But similar to ChatGPT, it's less about formulating the most pristine search query, and it's more about knowing when to give up on a goose chase. Does the SERP indicate that your original search query was a good one? No? Bail. Does the first page you visit have a directly relevant title or first paragraph? No? Bail. As an Android/Flutter software engineer with over 11 years of experience in various industries, I have seen my fair share of lay-offs throughout my career. Currently, I am “potentially affected” by my company’s cost-cutting measures, and I will soon be unemployed. However, rather than wallow in self-pity, I am taking this opportunity to reflect on my experience and explore the potential it could bring. My Mobile Experience Throughout my career, I have been focused on crafting and ensuring the quality of native Android applications. While I was not interested in expanding my knowledge to backend or web development, I was always eager to push myself to become a pro in my area. Later on, I discovered the Flutter framework, which was presented by Google, the same company that owns Android. With over three years of experience using Flutter, I decided to achieve another milestone and work for a FAANG company. The self-education process was initially intimidating, but it has been the best thing that could have happened to me as I have learned more than I ever expected. Lay-Offs History I have experienced three layoffs throughout my career, and I don’t believe that it will be the last. The world is constantly changing, and the economy is not always stable. Even the tech industry is not infinite and immortal. back in 2015 when I worked for Samsung R&D Ukraine. It felt personal and was a bit of a bummer. However, because of the political situation in my home country, some exact conditions were not met, and the company had to cut staff, moving some roles to India or Korea. My first lay-off happened It was a shocking experience, but as I was in my home country, I was able to return home, and in a month, I found another position. Doors were opened for me. happened while I was working for a UK-based startup called Qwil Messenger. It was an amazing experience working with so many talented personalities and on a new tech stack (Flutter was not even released for public usage yet). My second lay-off The leadership was transparent and open to explaining the reason for the lay-off. I learned that layoffs are not because of your skills or personality; it is merely a business decision. happened recently, due to Instagram’s staff shortage in London, where I was working. The experience was unexpected and not ideal, but the leadership was transparent about the situation. Although I was supposed to change teams and organisations twice already, the transactions were ultimately reverted. While it may feel unfair, it is a matter of fate. However, I am in the UK on a Skilled Worker visa, so I am working on my next steps. The third time I experienced a lay-off Keep in Mind Facing a layoff can be a difficult experience, but it’s important to keep a few things in mind. Firstly, it’s essential to understand that redundancy is not the same as being fired, and it does not reflect on your skills or performance. It’s a business decision, and even the most skilled and valuable employees may be impacted. Secondly, it can be a shock, but it’s important to focus on what you can control, such as updating your resume and networking to find new opportunities. Companies may be generous with severance packages, so it’s important to know your rights. If you are on a work visa, it’s crucial to start working on obtaining a new one as soon as possible. In the UK, the process involves notification (announcing the redundancy), selection of representatives (1 week to find the best representatives of employees to work on severance package with HR), consultation (1–2 months of discussion of the severance), and a notice period/garden leave (1–3 months). Finally, it’s important not to idealise any company and remember that leaving one job doesn’t mean the end of your career. A lay-off can be a new beginning and an opportunity to start fresh in a new role or even a new industry. Summary In summary, being laid off from a big tech company is not the end of the world. F*ck Centralized Stablecoins

I was recently asked to generate a list of all token transactions undertaken within my company's wallet. Naturally, I began with Etherscan in hopes that I would be able to download and export the list of transactions — only to find that such a functionality is limited to 5,000 rows. As you can guess, the wallet I was interested in had significantly higher number of transactions. What a bummer. Which meant the only way to get the list I wanted was to write a script that collected the information I needed. I have decided to share my learning via an open source script because I believe this problem might be common enough that other others might benefit from it. At the end of the day, all companies in the blockchain space have similar issues. You can find the script and its source code on Github In this article, I'm using my personal wallet to simplify examples. My personal wallet has only 17 transactions but the script on my Github works well with significantly higher amounts of transactions, so feel free to use it. How to Generate a List of All Token Transactions Within a Wallet

I need to spit it out. I want my friends to hear what I’ve seen and what I’ve learned. To feel it in their stomach. I want the world to know this story. For me it’s not about hype or likes, it’s about the simple truth that everyone can make a difference. Because I hope that my story will inspire others and ignite them to action. And yes, I know that by supporting Ukraine and writing this I can have problems in Russia and I won’t be able to visit my family anymore. 24th of February, 2022 Like many Ukrainians on this day, I woke up to this crazy news — war has been started. I was shocked. What? How? WHY!?!?! In the upcoming days, I was glued to the TV. Trying to be in touch with all my friends from Ukraine. And also — from Russia. I was stuck between two worlds. Friends suffering in Ukraine on one side, and shocked relatives in Russia not knowing how to deal with all of this on the other. And I’m in the middle, tearing myself apart. Not able to work, not able to think about anything but people that are close to me struggling to survive right now. The news showed thousands of refugees trying to escape the war and save their lives. The last drop was a message on 28th Feb. from my cousin, a Russian Jew who was living in Ukraine. He wrote to me that he and his family had successfully driven away from Kyiv to a village, but now were sitting in the basement without electricity. He wrote that the whole village was surrounded by Russian forces and they were being shelled all the time. He sent me a map of where he was and where the Russian forces were. And then, his phone was disconnected. For days… I called and called and there was no answer… I have to do something about it! I drove everyone crazy in my company, saying over and over again that we have to do something. And I felt there should be something that I could personally do. Eventually, our COO, , said: . Ouriel Just fly there and figure out what you can do and how you are going to help Luckily for me, my employer has an entire team dedicated to crisis management. , from this team, was the first to fly there, and I was about to join him the next day. At the time, I was changing groups, moving from Mobile to API. I spoke to , my future manager who is also Ukrainian with many relatives and friends in the region, trying to convince him to come with me — and he agreed! We packed suitcases full of macs, chargers, keyboards, screens, bought plane tickets from Tel Aviv to Warsaw and took off right on the next day. Therefore, on my first day in Vlad’s group, we both happened to be on our way to the Ukrainian border. Anton Vlad All three of us didn’t know exactly what we were going to do. We agreed that in the worst case scenario, we would just rent a car and drive people from the Ukrainian border to the nearest big city. At first, we arrived in , in a huge refugee camp. What we saw there was chaos: a large hangar, few volunteers with megaphones at the center of it, shouting something. Thousands of people arriving every minute on buses from the border. Mainly women and children with a few suitcases. Their entire lives… Just in one suitcase. They had no clue where to go next, what to do next or where to stay. Even at the camp, there were not enough beds for everyone to sleep in… Those first minutes terrified me, I felt numb. How come all this could be happening!? At the entrance, we noticed some folks with small hand-made signs offering free rides to cities and to other European countries. Some of them even offered a place to stay and work. We spoke to them and found out that they were just regular people, not belonging to any organization. They wanted to help and came to pick a family or two and drive them to a safe place or host them for some time. They were from all parts of Europe. It looked like we could help here by organizing the driver-refugee matching process. We grabbed our macs, bought one big TV and just went into this small island of volunteers in the middle. We explained to them what we wanted to do and … just started doing it. We put a big QR code leading to a form which asked drivers to register with a name, destination and a scan of their driver’s license. When they finished filling the form, we asked them to wait at a certain area. All this information went to a board and we displayed this board on a big TV screen that every refugee could see immediately upon their arrival at the camp. Standing in the cold (it was around -10°C) I noticed a woman with a few months old baby in her hands. She was sitting on the freezing ground. Crying silently. Desperation gripped her. It felt like something broke inside me. I rushed to her, helped her get inside the camp, got some warm tea for her and found her a bed with a blanket. This really hit me hard — I became so furious and so determined to build the best solution out there and help refugees like her. In the beginning, we were doing everything by ourselves, but when the process had begun to work and a few matches had happened, we trained some volunteers that were around. With a spark of excitement that our system seemed to be working, we decided to let the volunteers manage the system and went to visit another refugee camp that was close by — . Przemyśl My friend, was volunteering there, so we decided to give it a shot and see how we can collaborate. Oleh Zasadny, The situation at the camp was the same: mess, chaos, a lot of refugees, few volunteers running back and forth. All logistics at the camp were managed by using paper and megaphone. But.. There was a gleam of light: Oleh said that the organizer from the event-management company would be arriving tomorrow, so it was worth it to come back again and meet him. So we returned to Korczowa — and what we saw there was discouraging. Volunteers that we had trained left the camp, and new ones weren’t using the system. All our macs were closed and the TV was shut down… Bummer. Frustration. Chaos again. Then it struck me that in all the noise and density of the crowd, almost no one was crying. I was amazed. Despite all the shit that was happening, they kept going, fighting their own battle of survival. Quietly, bravely. Getting back to our matching system, we knew that the next challenge was to make the system work without us being involved. And for this we surely needed a local partner. The next day, we met the organizer of the Przemyśl camp and explained what we did in Korczowa. Even though the organizer didn’t believe much in the success of our initiative, she gave us one of the local volunteers and a permission to work at the camp. Everyone was very skeptical and even suspicious like “what do they want from us?” But Vlad and I were determined to make it work. We saw immediately how they started to spread the knowledge and explain the process to each other. The barriers built by skepticism were broken as soon as they saw what they were capable of with our tech. We had this special feeling that it might work. Next, we organized the same process for refugees registration and management. Volunteers filled out our form for refugees: who they are, where they want to go, do they need a place to stay and calm down, how many children they have with them. We didn’t have enough laptops and we saw that this process created a huge queue. So we bought and started using tablets and smartphones, and then volunteers were able to work not only on laptops, but also on those handset devices in the queue itself https://youtu.be/wgmHk2iqrzg?embedable=true The system started to work. It was amazing to see how, slowly but surely, chaos turned into some order. During implementation, we faced some issues in the system: missing functionality, errors on EU server. And this was a moment where I really felt the magic of wonderful people at my organization. Vlad and I wrote on our slack channel and immediately, all RnD were working on solving it. It was amazing to see how many people jumped right ahead and were ready to help. For the first time, at the field, we were building a flow to manage refugee camps and we were real users of the system. We normally develop our systems from a warm office with snacks in the fridge. And only after a single day of using it, Vlad and I were talking and sharing tons of improvements and suggestions that both of us had. I remember it was such an amazing feeling! Late at night, when sitting together with organizers of the camp, for the first time, we were able to see : how many refugees passed through the camp in one day what the requested destinations were: how many volunteer drivers we had: and how many volunteers per language we had in general As one of the organizers said, it was mind-blowing and insightful. For the first time, he realized that they were missing rides to Warsaw. And he rushed out of the organizers’ meeting immediately to find more volunteer drivers to Warsaw. The system worked. And we faced more and more challenges. One of the biggest ones was “human traffic”. It turned out that there were some volunteer drivers that were using this situation for their own profit… So, we decided to battle it. We set up a meeting with a few devs and product managers and the next night they already came up with a solution — to add to the form the driver’s license validation using the 3rd party API in monday.com. At the same time, our Mobile team — within one night — built an app to match refugees & volunteer drivers using QR code scanning. And all this turned out to be just the beginning of a huge effort. While Vlad, Anton, and I were at the Ukraine/Poland border, every day we posted our progress on our slack: reports, pictures, videos. This created so much visibility and alignment on what was going on, that many folks were willing to join and help. As a result, every week new folks from my company flew to different camps to replicate the flow that we had built and to create many new solutions: medicine inventory, bed management system, supply, and more. Unleashing the Power of Technology and Kindness: the Moving Tale of Volunteering

Some of you might know that music is one of my big passions other than data science. I personally believe that blockchain can really disrupt the music industry, but it hasn't done that yet. I thought I would show you to an interesting conversation I had with my friend Clay on this topic. So what we're going to discuss with Clay are the music and blockchain. Clay Hawkins is the CEO and the founder of the Open Music Exchange, a blockchain startup in the music industry**.** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq3mUzfzrws&t=38s?embedable=true I was really looking forward to your thoughts on the current state of blockchain in the music industry and why? Do you believe that we need a new company? Me: For example, everyone knows about audio, but apparently, audio, you know, there are many things that it hasn't been done right, so I was really keen on hearing your thoughts about what you think can be improved and what the Open music exchange can bring to the table. :  Well, I think NFTs outside of what the ledger capabilities of blockchain just to track sales and things like the traditional components of the record industry in our instance, this is a trend that we'll see in the future. Clay Outside of the way that they've been used thus far, which is more speculative and sort of collectibles and that kind of a thing. We see it as a way that you can give an artist the ability to gate sort of access to their music. And this is something that in a way I don't think is really ever been able, you know, something so cheaply and inefficient effectively that can give artists this ability now to decide. You know, the current industry, the streaming paradigm, they set a rate at what they'll pay out their artists, which is, you know, terribly low to the point where there's really no money in recorded music anymore and a third of a penny. It's like what Spotify does. So we're kind of the opinion that with blockchain and with Nfts being able to be minted so inexpensively, we can let the artists be their own record label, record store, and distributor. They get to do all of this for almost no cost, unlike the old days of the music industry, where you had all that brick-and-mortar. Now for less than $0.50 using the 1155 smart contract, you can min an NFT for a song and min 20 million NFT copies for that, just like you had 20 million copies of an album back in the day. And each one of those acts as a digital key that unlocks the access to whatever content the artist has, has endowed that NFT with and without content, the majority of it basically being the music residing on our platform. Me: You know, the artists license their music to us, and then we just stream it to anybody who owns it. From our vantage point, it's unlike the audience, The current state of the music industry on blockchain at this point seems to be highly collectible. It seems to be favoring big stars. Everybody's heard of Snoop Dogg and those guys all being involved in space. They're taking advantage of their name and brand and minting, you know, scarce quantities and very collectible elements. They're usually selling them for quite a bit. And I sort of feel like all of that is more of a niche use case for Nfts at this point. I think that I was speaking to somebody at a financial company the other day and. And he kind of agreed that utility we're trying to bring utility to these NFTs where they give you access as the most basic fundamental utility that they have. And because they're unique in the sense that if you bought it, you own it. It's an NFT. This is hopefully where the NFT industry can really thrive. Clay: Is this kind of intelligent access, opening capabilities, that kind of thing for data and whatnot. So I haven't really seen our other competitors’ audience. You know, they're not selling NFTs, and they're kind of going through their own growing pains. And there are a couple of other different platforms that, from what we've seen, like it still seem to be catering towards that collectible status. I feel the beautiful thing about blockchain is that the technology around NFTs on blockchains is really democratization and, you know, brings this power back to the common man. I mean, as we know, we always hear about that with cryptocurrencies and stuff like that. But at least in our specific use case, we were able to. Tell the average musician, you know. Yeah, you can. You can put your music on our platform. You can mint these for very little money, you know, under a dollar. And you can get them out there on the blockchain. The blockchain will take care of everything for you in terms of all your data. Say what is about your music, about what? If there's some value in that music, then a blockchain can help you retain that value, capture it, manipulate it, sell it, and guide it rather than just throwing it out to the powers that now decide that you don't get anything for it. So yeah, that's kind of where I'm pretty excited about the way that I feel like all of the merits and the benefits of blockchain technology, they really shine when it comes down to letting, you know, musicians and creators and stuff like that. I think we're going to see a lot of that. The creative artistic markets carve out their use cases on blockchains, specifically with devices like NFTs and smart contracts; they'll evolve as well. Like then, the capabilities of what an artist will be able to do, curate, control, and all that stuff will grow as well. Do you think that blockchain can overtake the music industry as it currently is, like Spotify and record labels? Do you see that there's a potential to see this happening in the next ten years, for example? Me: I think that there is because not only because of the benefits of blockchain in eliminating middlemen, you know, allowing an artist and a fan to interact directly with each other, that's pretty hard to know, knowing all of the music, all of the money that a fan pays could essentially go right to the artist, know everybody can see all the accounting is out there for everyone to see, and it's a direct fan to artist experience. Clay: I also think that the current music industry, you know, we've all kind of even if you're even passively involved with music. Everybody kind of knows that musicians have always gotten the short, short end of the stick, you know, like they don't get paid usually. Even in the music industry, you know, the record labels took nine out of every $10 for every record. As far as from a musician standpoint, you know, a fan standpoint, from a consumer standpoint, it's in some ways it's never been better. You pay your small subscription, and you just get everything. Yeah, but this is I don't think it's sustainable as a market because if you can't actually survive as an artist and make a living, then the quality of the art is going to diminish over time; artists don't have the time to sustain their careers and build their art and develop it into something. And just from my experience in the music industry and with the peers that I have that are performers and are involved in the industry, they're clamoring for something, anything, you know, they just don't have an alternative right now. So if you, you know, as a musician, you just literally do not have an alternative. And I think that's why these platforms are going to have such a grip. But technology's disruptive, right? And that's one of the beautiful things about technology. And I think this particular technology, blockchain, just like its power to disrupt so many industries. It has the same power as the music industry, and they've really put itself in a box. They've created something that does need to be replaced. You know, they've created a really drastic need for an alternative. I so I kind of am. I'm hoping that if we provide an artist with a simple, straightforward, practical way to utilize these tools, what do they have to lose? Right? You can, you know, as an artist, and so there is that working in the evolution favor. And the trend pushing that trend is that, well, on this side of the trend, you have a bunch of artists that are not making anything anymore. You can give an artist a way to monetize their music again. This is most important with emerging artists. You know, we're not talking about the 1% that earns most of the money in music, just the superstars. Yeah. How does the average everyday emerging artist that's trying to get their career off the ground, how did they get going And that's where this technology with blockchain stuff really shines because, as we know, it's available to everybody worldwide. And so yeah, I think it's inevitable in some ways, like a lot of industries that are going to be disrupted by blockchain. I think that they're like banking, all of these industries that just can't compete because they're working from a very old model, you know, that I just don't think the current generation of artists want to. If somebody's serious about earning money from their music and taking that responsibility seriously, then they would naturally migrate towards something that might be a solution. So that's kind of. And what do you find that audience is currently doing wrong, which could be done better? Me: Well. The main first thing you know, I was surprised that they really put a high bar like that. A hurdle in terms of just their user experience. I haven't spent a ton of time going through their platform, but as we all know, crypto's not simple. If you're not initiated, if you don't know about wallets and how blockchains work and stuff like that in crypto, the volatility involved. Clay: To me, just this is just from my vantage point. It seemed like, well, for one, they insisted on paying everybody out in their audio token, and I know that at the height of the bull run was like trading at around $6 or something. Last I saw, it was at $0.16 or something. Yeah, that's a big market. , If you got paid out in audio tokens, that's a real bummer. Then on top of that, you have to take, you know, I looked up I think Binance was the only big exchange that I saw that was actually carrying the audio token. So as far as then cashing those out to your, what kind of off-ramp do you have? What are your choices? If you wanted actually to get into Fiat to spend your earnings Now, are you dealing with the taxes in your country related around cashing out your crypto? So by the time the depreciation of the coin and then the going through the off-ramp taxation, kind of getting it in the fiat process into your bank. As far as emerging, like what I was saying in the last question, you need to make it sort of easy, feasible, and profitable if you're trying to offer an alternative to artists. Right. And it seemed to me like by going down that road. They've really got to have a huge leap of faith. There's something's going to happen here that they're audio tokens going to skyrocket. And so, yeah, I think essentially the problem was with their tokenomics, right? I think this is where many projects get it wrong. Like many projects, they launch during a bull run when everything is easy, and money is abundant, and you know, during the hard times, they just don't survive or do very poorly. Me: Right. I was I clicked on a thread on a Reddit thread about the audience. And there, somebody was complaining about not getting their tokens. And then I think because I clicked on that, I started regularly getting Reddit thread posts in my email, and there were a lot of emails that or a lot of Reddit threads that people were complaining that like, Hey, I can't get paid in my audio tokens, I'm still waiting on this. I can't get a hold of anybody. So yeah, I think it does seem like as the bear run, the bear markets kind of progress, and everything sort of compressed Clay: It seemed that, and again, I'm not an authority on any of it, obviously, but just from my perspective of what I was noticing and observing, it seemed like there was a lot of user frustration around the way that their business model was not functioning as the token decline, you know, and as everything kind of contract. So we're trying to stay very simple, as simple as we possibly can for musicians, and make this as easy of a user experience as possible, given that it is in the crypto space. We're not going to be basing any of our payouts or any of the monetization on our coin on our token. So our token is more of a participant to earn at this point, and we will be using more stablecoins and stuff like that. Something I think that you have to ease people into this space a little bit, especially when it concerns their money. Yeah, thinking foreign blockchain business that's in the B2C space. I think this is a major point. Like making the transition smooth. And I think that's a very good point. What you described like not everyone wants to deal with crypto per se, so you need to make it more friendly. Me: The whole industry needs to do this, right? I mean, it's all across every sector. Like, that's it's that adoption is basically with just the UX of all of these crypto companies. You know, we get used to it because we're involved in this space. But it's amazing, you know? Clay: I mean, you know, you just go talk to somebody who's not in the space, and their eyes just glaze over because they just don't understand. It's just immediately; they've got some idea of what they've read or heard in the market. Some NFT news came down, and that's all they know. And so, yeah, to the degree I think that any company can take that into account and not assume that their users will embrace this just because I think you really have to do that legwork for now. You know, the trends are in our favor. I mean, like the on-ramps and payouts, all that stuff will come into play. And I think all the user experiences for the wallets and blockchains and everything is, you know, obviously, gratefully, it's changing and working in our favor. But if you're starting up a company now...., I mean, it's just we're still in the early stages of so much of this. Everybody's trying to figure it out, whether it's the government, it's trying to figure it out, Corporations trying to figure it out, or banks trying to figure it out. Yeah, let's try to figure it out. And we are, too. But we're pretty clear on what we're doing. So now it's just a matter of getting it out there in front of people. Yeah, absolutely. So great. I just put a bunch of music on it over the weekend, and we've got a few more little tweaks and some things we're trying to work out. Clay: We started onboarding artists in august.
