Hi Devs! In this lab we are going to automate some actions using Instagram API. Gain active followers - Algorithm Maybe some of you do not agree it is a good way to grow your IG page by using follow for follow method but after a lot of researching I found the proper way to use this method. I have done and used this strategy for a while and my page visits also followers started growing. The majority of people failing because they randomly targeting the followers and as a result, they are not coming back to your page. So, the key is to find people those have same interests with you. If you have a programming page go and search for IG pages which have big programming community and once you find one, don't send follow requests to followers of this page. Because some of them are not active even maybe fake accounts. So, in order to gain active followers, go the last post of this page and find people who liked the post. I think you get the idea. Those people will like your posts as well because they are active followers. Unofficial Instagram API In order to query data from Instagram I am going to use the very cool, yet unofficial, Instagram API written by . Automating Instagram API Using Python: Gain Active Followers

Part 1 (#25–#13) Revealing techniques of 25 successful attacks on blockchain: from 2010 to 2018, $1.8+ billion USD. Bitcoin Out of Thin Air — 92 Billion BTC Date: Aug 2010 Attack An flaw in Bitcoin’s code has been exploited at block #74638 to generate 92233720368.54277039 BTC. The overflow has resulted from a type that can hold an integer up to at most 2⁶³-1, giving the number 9223372036854277039. integer overflow UINT64_MAX After Attack Bitcoin community canceled all relevant transactions and rolled back the ledger to the pre-hack state. AllinVain — 25,000 BTC ($500,000) Date: Jun 2011 Attack The hacker broke into the victim’s hard drive and transferred a large chunk of balance to an external wallet. World’s first cryptocurrency hacks victim . from Wikipedia Mt. Got 1st Hack — 2609 BTC ($50,000) Date: Jun 19 2011 Attack The attacker and altered the nominal value of BTC to 1 cent. Afterward, the attacker transferred 2609 BTC from some clients to sell at this low price and purchased back nearly 650 BTCs from another account. obtained an auditor’s credentials After Attack Mt. Got 2nd Hack — 750,000 BTC ($350 million) Date: Mar 2014 Attack The attacker found . The details of the transactions can be edited to make it like it never took place. transactions malleable Specifically, in a general transfer transaction, the attacker (the receiver) was able to manipulate the sender’s signature before it goes into the blockchain, and changed the transaction ID. This new and tampered transaction has a chance to overwrite the sender’s original transaction, in which scenario, the attacker gets the funds yet it seemed like the sender does not successfully put the original transaction into the blockchain. The attacker (the receiver) can, therefore, ask for an additional transfer, who will eventually receive the funds twice. After Attack Mt. Got halted all BTC transactions right away. Lots of tutorials After Attack Ethereum community planned to do a soft fork but found another DDoS vulnerability inside the code, so a hard fork was inevitable. Right now we have Ethereum (new version) and Ethereum Classic (old hacked version). from https://steemit.com/ Steemit.com —Steem and Steem Dollars ($85,000) Date: Jul 2016 Attack The attacker hit 260 Steemit accounts and drained their balances. It’s a human error that was caused by a UI design flaw. Some users might not be aware of the difference between the memo and the password, and accidentally pasted their password at the memo field, which will be submitted along with the transaction. Those passwords will be kept public and immutable on the blockchain of Steemit! can simply scrape the passwords of numerous users who made this fatal mistake. A simple script from https://www.bitfinex.com Bitfinex — 120,000 BTC ($72 million) Date: Aug 2016 Attack Bitfinex switched to use BitGo’s multi-sig wallet 12 months ago. The attacker found a vulnerability in its multi-sig architecture and took advantage of it. After Attack Bitfinex issued BFX tokens to compensate victims, which are redeemable in USD. The victims lost are refunded slowly and steadily afterward. The attack made the price of BTC drop from $607 to $515 in just a few hours. from “Daily value of your cryptocurrency wallet” CoinDash — ETH ($7 million) Date: Jul 2017 Attack The attacker manipulated the ICO address posted on CoinDash’s website to lure investors into incorrect place for exchanging Ether for CoinDash tokens. It is trying to fix the internet as we know today, by improving the ad model. Having known about it couple of months ago, I had been postponing my switch to Brave for lack of extensions support. Now they have started supporting chrome extensions and hence I am switching. This is true even if the new alternative is much better than the old one. With the rapid pace of development today there is a tough competition and a close fight most of the times. With nightly builds and weekly releases, it is too taxing to compare the strengths of tools objectively on a regular basis. When was the last time you even considered an alternative browser. Do you compare the latest features of the popular browser every month? at-least once in every quarter? How about every six months? Well yes. Not many people do. I didn’t either. It is very rare that we go back to drawing room to review and decide what tools to use on a regular basis. It is too much of work. So we make the decision and stick to it until we are forced to change. We know that is not ideal but that is how we are all wired I guess. I was curious about this project as it was co-founded by the Brendan Eich. He is best known as the creator of the ubiquitous Javascript programming language. In addition to Brendan Eich the team has some great names with each of them being a pro in one critical feature of the project. In fact they have they have been making use of this quite effectively. Features of the browser If I had to put down the features of this browser in the order I like them the most it would be. Browse Faster Their website claims that the browser is upto 2 times faster on desktop and upto 8 times faster on mobile. I have not “run my horses” yet, but even during the normal usage I could see that the browser was way faster compared to other browsers. The browser start time is also very less. Personally this is critical for me. Couple of years ago though I liked everything else about Firefox I didn’t move to it, as it used to take very long for a cold start. Protect your Privacy — Blocks trackers I have been using this browser for only couple of minutes now and I can already see that it has blocked 129 trackers. I was really blind to the fact that there were so many trackers tracking me on every popular site I visit. I am a little more confident now that my personal data and patterns will not be sold to marketers without my consent. Brave did a good job of keeping track of these numbers and showing them visually on the browser. This will definitely raise the awareness. https everywhere This is more of a misnomer. I thought this would automatically convert all http sites to https sites. That is create a secure channel on the go. How foolish of me :P If the certificate is not installed on the server and website has not enabled https, I don’t think there is much the browser can do. But looks like I am not the only as I read couple of where people assumed that “https upgrades” it will create secure channels. But looks it only means redirections when https version is available. discussions regarding this https upgrades means, sites and hyperlinks, that are linked to http:// and if a equivalent https:// site is available… brave browser, automatically changes those links to https:// equivalents, to prevent tracking etc., I think brave should rephrase this as it can be misleading. If you have not yet decided to use brave you can use the . After having realised what “httpseverywhere” it is no more a killer feature I thought it was. But I am leaving it here in this position, as many people might misunderstand it like I did. httpseverywhere extension TOR Integration Though I have read couple of times about TOR I have never really found the need to need to use them. While that is one of the reasons, the other is that I am lazy. But looks like Brave is making using TOR very easy. When you open a new private tab brave shows this message. Now you can start using TOR with a private browser. Isn’t that cool? Message on private tab You can start a new private tab with TOR, by doing a right click on the new tab icon in any one of the existing tabs. Opening a private tab with TOR The documentation is not clear about how to open a “New Private Tab with Tor”. I think Brave should change the message on the first screen so that people have clear instructions about using this feature. Blocks ads by default I have never used ad blockers until recently. Having managed a couple of small websites in the past, I realise the issues of the publishers. If most users start using “ad blockers” then the publishers will have to find alternative sources of income. Since there were none, I never felt using Ad blockers. But now Brave is coming out with a very good solution for this problem, which we will discuss later. However while going through the brave download page I came across a new information that was surprising. We never realize that we might be paying substantial amount to ISPs for downloading ads and trackers which we don’t want. So I was naturally surprised to find out the actual figures. Brave claims that it is $276 for an year. The average mobile browser user pays as much as $23 a month in data charges to download ads and trackers — that’s $276 a year. blocks ads and trackers, so you don’t pay for them. Brave Now that brave has an alternative revenue model I think we can safely start using “Disable ads and trackers”. Timing You can get everything else right but if your timing is wrong there is nothing much you can do. We all know of many of our favourite projects which got everything right but failed to get mass adoption just because they were either ahead of time or they were late. So timing is very critical. I think brave is entering the markets in the right time. Following are couple of reasons I think that timing is right. Developers liked these browsers as it was easier to code front end of websites for these browsers. Naturally most of the websites started promoting these browsers as well. But their association with the browsers pretty much ended there. With Brave the scenario changes. Since the publishers can get paid for their efforts and content, they have a vested interest to promote the browser. Whether the revenues from this source will be sufficient to replace the revenues from ads is something that we need to wait and watch. But it can already be considered as an alternative source of income. Marketing Budget While there are examples of open source projects like Linux, Apache etc gaining popularity even without much of marketing, marketing is critical especially for a browser to gain traction. Looks like Brave it not shying here. They are spending real dollars on customer acquisition. 5 USD Custom Acquisition Cost For every active user converted, I think Brave is paying close to 5USD. Not many publishers might depend on this. But for the new model to gain adoption and challenge the big wigs like chrome and Firefox, the number of users using this browser should definitely sky rocket. When the product is good, don’t underestimate the power of referrals. We all are aware of how Paypal referrals snowballed and made it a house hold name in a very short span of time. They have realised the browser is a critical component for this and hence are concentration most of their resources on the browser. This seems like a very interesting approach to solve the Digital advertising. They are in it for the long run and they have got their priorities right. So for now I am bullish on BAT and brave. Why I am finally switching from chrome to Brave

How do you when it is finally time to make the change in something on your website and you can no more postpone it? Well, when Google starts penalising. Lets us assume that I tell you this. 5 kilograms weighs lesser than 50 grams, as 5 is less than 50. I am pretty sure that you will quickly realise the fallacy and call me an idiot. Reason? I am not using the same standard unit for comparison. Simple right? Yes. Using the same unit forms the basis of any comparison. Remember the statement “Comparing Apples to Oranges”. Yet we fail to see the same issues while comparing cryptocurrency prices. Why MarketCap is a better metric to compare Market Cap = Price * Circulating Supply So taking bitcoin as an example 111,977,495,329 = 6483.56 * 17,271,000 Top 10 cryptcorrencies We have all seen this screen multiple times. CMC lists the coins based on their Market Caps. Have you asked yourself why? Market Cap is a metric of how much the market values your cryptocurrency. It may not be the ideal metric but it is still the best metric because it means, so many people have bought into your company or your dream. Real skin in the game. Your Game. Your cryptocurrency is successful, people make money. Your project fails, people loose their hard earned money. How much money people loose or make in the process is the difference in the Market Cap of your cryptocurrency over the time. So in an ideal world the price of cryptocurrency shouldn’t matter at all. It is the Market Cap that matters. So thought Cardano is priced at 0.06 USD, its market cap is 1,753,490,547 as it has a huge supply of 25,927,070,538. How many times have you heard one of the following, Bitcoin went from 10$ to 20,000$ in X years. Do your regret missing to invest in Bitcoin? Don’t worry coin XYZ is just 10 cents now. Invest now. This is a classic case of projects targeting people who don’t understand Market Caps and only look at prices. They have an easy trick create a coin with very high supply. Reach out to the insecurities of people with pitch like the above one. Even if the price movement is very small they get to make millions as the market cap shoots up due to huge supply. I don’t have money to buy Bitcoin, it is very costly. The price of Bitcoin doesn’t matter. If you think it has potential to grow you can buy Bitcoin. If you have only 100 USD it doesn’t matter. You can buy 100 USD worth of Bitcoin. There is no rule that you should buy a minimum of 1 Bitcoin. Remember that at max only 21 million people can own 1 Bitcoin as that is the maximum supply. There will be millions more who will be owning only partial Bitcoin. Can you suggest some coins below 1 USD for me to invest in. Again the price doesn’t matter. A look at circulating supplies of TOP 100 coins Majority of the coins outside Top 100 are scams or overvalued. So let us just take the top 100 cryptocurrencies. Click on to sort the list in descending order of Circulating Supply. You can quickly find out that many of the projects that had fan boy clubs where the fans were promising insane returns all fall into the category of . Human brain finds it difficult to comprehend bigger numbers. Comparing the markets caps in terms of billions and millions can be a little daunting. And more over once you are used to something it is very difficult to change the behaviour. Since everybody who is active in cryptocurrency circles are used to the price of Bitcoin, it is better to derive a normalised price which can be easily compared to the price of Bitcoin on any given day. Normalised Cryptocurrency Price = (Price of a cryptocurrency) * (Current Circulating Supply of cryptocurrency) / (Current Circulating Supply of Bitcoin) Let us try to find out the normalised price for Ether. I am hoping that with this tool more people will start looking at normalised prices and know when they are buying into the hype. I strongly believe that I am hoping that this new metric finds adoption and helps in correct comparison of cryptocurrency projects which will facilitate channeling of funds to best projects. Well the title was a hyperbole. Now that I have got your attention let us get started. It might be stretch as of today that we can kill twitter. But in this post I would like to show that it many not be impossible after all, at-least in a couple of years. A few things to know before we start killing twitter. It starts with realising the you are doing a favour to twitter and twitter is not doing a favour to you. Irrespective of whether the services is following a ad revenue based model or freemium model one thing is in common. Either you have to pay up for the services or the service needs to sell something to somebody. Understanding what is that something that is sold and to whom it is sold is important. Let us start with the most quoted quote regarding the free services or seemingly free services. Most of the social media users forget the value they are adding to the networks. It is easier for us to see a blog post or a video as as data/content. But we fail to realise that even the short status updates that we do on and our comments on them in social media websites are also content. Every action that we do on social media is valuable and it adds to the valuation of the platform. How much is that action valued and how is it valued requires a detailed analysis (Will be following up this post with couple of related posts about this topic). But for now let us understand this much. Every action that we do on a social media website falls into one of the following categories. I took Aantonop’s example because he is very popular in the world of Bitcoin and his videos have helped many entrepreneurs to take a plunge into Bitcoin. His videos are proof that well made content has a long shelf life and has revenue generating potential even outside the platforms that the content was created in. Now lets gets back to our original question. How to kill twitter? This might seem like an impossible proposition to many. Let us look at the reasons why it is difficult to kill twitter or facebook for that matter. I don’t need another social network. I first got to know about Robert Scoble from Google+ days. I invited him to checkout Steemit platform and he replied with “I don’t need another social network.” Today we are in age where we have a social media overload. The new social media platforms needs to cross the critical mass for all the others to follow up. Replacing Facebook might be impossible for the next few years but we might have a chance to replace twitter with a decentralised version. Facebook has too much of a lead. It has your photos, videos, friends, memories, groups and pages. Any new entrant needs to address all these to overcome Facebook. Whereas with respect to twitter a limited feature set with additional benefits should be able to sway the needle in the new entrant’s favour. So for now let us assume given enough motivation users might consider shifting to the new platform. Twitter has first mover advantage Twitter is huge. Twitter has first mover advantage. Yes that might be the case. But last year has proven the with right incentive models you can have a jumpstart. Show me the money Attributing a value to content is a tough task. There have many unsuccessful attempts in the past. I think Steem blockchain has come further than any other attempts. By incentivising both content creation and content curation steem has figured out a subjective way to attribute value to content. With the release of SMTs later this year the community will only get better at arriving at closer estimations for the value of posts. When people were told that their content is worth something they were not able to relate to it. With platforms like Steem having put definitive value to content and having paid the same to the content creators (which many have en-cashed to to FIAT) the idea is more palpable now. Monetary incentives can do wonders and as more people get to know about these platforms the effect will only get compounded. Hitting the critical mass To be a serious contender to twitter the new platform needs to hit the critical mass. This can be the real challenge. So here are the things that can be done. Create a distributed cryptocurrency on the lines of Steem (Especially the rewards mechanism part.) Keep the interface, UX and restrictions(like number of characters) very similar to twitter. So that people feel at home ;) In addition to the normal account creation have a preserved namespace twitter-[twitter-handle]. This will be reserved for creating one to one mapping of user accounts from twitter to the new blockchain. The user accounts for each user on twitter are also created on the new platform. Both username and passwords(private keys) will be created. Twitter users can claim their password by sending a tweet to twitter handle of new blockchain. The password or private keys will be dm’ed to users. Since all tweets are public duplicate them in the new platform under the users accounts. If that is a stretch then it can be started with latest tweets of popular accounts and then it can be expanded slowly. The beta users will have access to popular content on the new platform. Their retweets and likes of tweets will decide the value of the new tweets mirrors from twitter. While users might be hesitant to create new accounts I think there will be very few people who will not be happy to claim their accounts. Especially when they know that there are rewards waiting for them to en-cash for the content they have created. The incentive or the rewards to be received on the new platform will be bigger for the users with huge number of followers. (Assuming that their content is also liked by the beta users on the new platform). So if these influencers move to the new platform, they will also bring along at-least some part of their followers. Considering that the content on blockchain will be censor resistant and it rewards good content the platform should be able to take of hit the critical mass very soon. I am not sure what will be the legal issues surrounding an attempt like these. But I think this is something definitely worth trying.
