Zilliqa (ZIL) Review: What You Should Know

2017 saw the hype of utility tokens and ICOs. 2018 marks the hyped start of asset tokenization and the launch of securities tokens/platforms. This trend is notably huge in U.S, given how A16z, GGV Capital invested in the likes of tokenization platforms like <a href="https://blog.trusttoken.com/trusttoken-raises-20-million-usd-in-strategic-round-88912d1dbc71" target="_blank">TrustToken</a>, <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/17/harbor-securities-tokenization/" target="_blank">Harbor</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.sg/a-startup-raised-59-million-in-a-token-sale-to-usher-in-the-next-generation-of-crypto-2018-2/?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank">Polymath</a>. In Asia itself, the trend is starting to pick up too. For instance, <a href="https://rate3.network" target="_blank">Rate3 Network</a> was funded by various notable Asian VCs that include Matrix Partners China and Fenbushi Capital.

How does tokenization work, anyway?

Today, one of the biggest problems plaguing the blockchain industry from moving forward is its inability to scale. This is no secret, so there has been some notable scalability projects like: the Lighting Network, Plasma, Side-chains, Mimblewimble, etc, but the most interesting one to me is the concept of sharding. Ever since Vitalik introduced a sharding proof of concept for Ethereum there has been a tremendous amount of chatter about this technology. One particular project that takes a novel approach to sharding is Zilliqa. This project goes beyond splitting the entire state of the network into a bunch of partitions called shards. Zilliqa can actually separate the state and the transaction history of the blockchain. Meaning, every single node in their network will have a copy of the current state but the transaction history will be split into pieces across different nodes. I feel that with their aggressive road map, impressive team, funding, go to market strategy, and innovative approach to sharding this may be a top ten coin in 12 months.

Zilliqa the Holy Grail of Scalability?

Not a day goes by in the blockchain space in which we don’t hear complains about the scalability and performance issues with first generation blockchain platforms such as Ethereum. Providing alternatives to Ethereum has become like its own market within the blockchain ecosystem with solutions such as EOS, Stellar or Cardano trying to become the next generation blockchain platforms. Recently, I started deep diving into the <a href="https://www.zilliqa.com/" target="_blank">ZILLIQA </a>project and have been blown away by their technological depth and mathematical rigor. Without getting into the predictions game, it is safe to assume that <a href="https://www.zilliqa.com/" target="_blank">ZILLIQA </a>is one of the projects that can play a prominent role in the next generation of blockchain platforms.
