It’s now the year 2020 and crypto isn’t dead yet (far from it), unlike what most critics have predicted. The number of case studies where blockchain technologies found their market fit isn’t that big, sure (yes, that harsh reality is still the same right now), but the industry is doing quite well overall. Over the past few years we’ve cut through the hype, eliminated the “get rich fast” scams, and continued improving our products.

This is an unpublished piece I just found. It was last modified on September 25, 1999, less than a month after Chris Locke, David Weinberger, Rick Levine and I finished writing <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Cluetrain-Manifesto-End-Business-Usual/dp/0738204315" target="_blank">The Cluetrain Manifesto</a> (which came out in January 2000), and a month before @DaveWiner got me started blogging. I think it was an early draft of a Cluetrain chapter that I never got around to repurposing. Regardless, it’s still a good time capsule of what I thought about the present and future of tech at that time, and still right in many (perhaps most) respects.

The Future Since 1999

2019 is the year of adoption. We have weathered the storm of early 2018, lived through the ensuing drought and we can see glimpses of the promised land on the horizon. At <a href="https://aelf.io/">aelf</a>, we are strongly passionate about overall adoption of blockchain technology as we believe it can benefit many people and industries. As such, we are always on the look-out for news of increasing adoption and collaboration.

2017 saw the hype of utility tokens and ICOs. 2018 marks the hyped start of asset tokenization and the launch of securities tokens/platforms. This trend is notably huge in U.S, given how A16z, GGV Capital invested in the likes of tokenization platforms like <a href="https://blog.trusttoken.com/trusttoken-raises-20-million-usd-in-strategic-round-88912d1dbc71" target="_blank">TrustToken</a>, <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/17/harbor-securities-tokenization/" target="_blank">Harbor</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.sg/a-startup-raised-59-million-in-a-token-sale-to-usher-in-the-next-generation-of-crypto-2018-2/?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank">Polymath</a>. In Asia itself, the trend is starting to pick up too. For instance, <a href="https://rate3.network" target="_blank">Rate3 Network</a> was funded by various notable Asian VCs that include Matrix Partners China and Fenbushi Capital.
