Yoshida joined Sony in 1983, filling positions in sales, finance, and investor relations. He later became part of their subdivision So-net before going back to Sony in 2007 as a group executive. He later went on to hold high-level positions such as CFO, Corporate Executive Officer, and Director, before becoming CEO in 2018. In his role as CFO, he was credited with pushing the company through an extensive restructuring which turned around Sony's losses from consumer electronics. Under his supervision, Sony has merged many of its businesses. The company achieved record profits in 2021, in part due to licensing deals and the release of the Sony PlayStation 5.
