When confronted with information that challenges our personal narrative, we consider the other person as either ignorant, evil or outright stupid. The desire to be right crushes the intent to find the objective truth - being wrong is considered bad, criticism is viewed as an attack on our personality and disagreements are regarded as time-wasting activities that do not add value.
