Too Long; Didn't Read

Web3 culture may bring “degens” closer together, but will it ever make it to the mainstream? Its biggest drawback is still being a niche league. A bridge between the digital world and the real world is still necessary. Media that connects people has always been at the center of power in any era. What would be the next media for next technology?

Web3 culture: evolving or stuck in its own bubble?

  • Showing off NFTs with monkey picture as PFP
  • Buying usernames like staykeen.eth in the name service
  • Playing with GMs in NFT-gated Discord channels for fun or for serious
  • Submitting wallet addresses for airdrops without knowing about it

These hallmarks of web3 culture may bring “degens” closer together, but will it ever take web3 mainstream? Seeing as its biggest drawback is still being a ‘niche league’. Without mass appeal, it’ll just be a footnote in history as a private party where money flowed freely.

Web3 killer app, wen moon? and how?

To reach the future, we need a bridge. Change doesn’t happen all at once. To bring the masses on board, it may be necessary to take a step back from the digital world and have a moment of reflection.

We don’t want a low-resolution 8-bit metaverse world. A bridge between the digital world and the real world is still necessary. The ultimate goal should not be for digital identity to become separated from the real world. Instead, digital identity should be an extension of our true selves, not a fragmented identity hidden behind a screen.

Media plays a crucial role in connecting people between the real and digital worlds. It’s likely to become the engine behind one of the Web3 killer apps. Humans have a natural instinct to connect with others, and media that connects people has always been at the center of power in any era.

New technology gives birth to new forms of media

The social media we use like air has evolved as technology has advanced.

  • For example, let’s consider the media known as “news”. The format of media content that delivers new information every day started when print technology was popularized for public use.
  • Also, with the widespread availability of technology that allows anyone to upload text and video content through the web, the form of “personal media” has emerged.

What will be the next tech and media advancements?

What forms of media will emerging technologies give rise to? When we think of blockchain as a huge **“**shared record system” we can imagine a media form that best utilizes the value of certifications.

  • EVERYDAY, Beeple recorded his work for [EVERYDAYS: THE FIRST 5000 DAYS] and minted it as an NFT. As NFT art, it has become a historical moment that set a new record for the highest price.
  • EVERYDAY, NounsDAO publishes and bids one NFT, and the records of who, when, and how much was bought are kept. Proposals, votes, and results for how to use the treasury are also transparently recorded.

So I thought that this EVERYDAY certification of value could become the standard of the next social media. Then, what is the most certified value? Maybe our lives themselves are the most valuable asset that can be certified. (Yeah. Actually, I don’t have many assets to certify in my wallet.)

The first hackathon by Aptos World Tour was held from February 1st to 3rd in Seoul. Our team submitted the least web3-like analogical idea a.k.a web2.5 social media.

After reading Mo Shaikh’s article, I figured that Aptos would be open to such an unusual idea as well. Even if we didn’t get a prize, our team bet on developing ideas that can be used in real life.

Life Mining is new auth of yourself — Bring your real life to web3

Problem.

Social media is a lonely space. People become exhausted from wanting something they can’t have. Social media is built as a system that makes people unhappy. People are addicted to this mechanism and post fake content to get likes and followers, which has become the formula for the wrong kind of “influence” today.

Redefine and Rebuild: The true definition of influence is helping others to succeed

Many people measure success by how much money they have made. However, I think success is measured by how many people I have made millionaires.

by Ray Kroc, Founder of McDonald’s

Inspired by the quote above, we aim to redefine the concept of influence — not to evoke envy from others, but to contribute to the success of others. It is a world where people can create synergies and gain influence as a result.

The background for the creation of “Life Mining” is to allow people to gain more influence on social media by helping followers with challenges. This leads to the possibility of making real life better through social media.

Solution - Bridging universe and metaverse with Video and NFTs

To achieve this, we need to connect our real and digital lives. The solution lies in the intersection of “video” and “NFT.” Videos are a means to record and certify the physical world, while NFTs are a means to record and certify the digital world. The combination of these two media will be the bridge connecting atoms (offline) and bits (online).

How it works

  1. Challenge: When a creator sets a challenge, followers can stake tokens (APT) on it.
  2. Record: Followers periodically upload videos to certify the challenge, and when the challenge is completed, they apply for a claim.
  3. Mine: Followers can get 1) prize money (deducted if failed), 2) grow their own dynamic NFTs, and 3) mint the group’s challenge certification video as an NFT.

Use Cases: Shared co-ownership, user-centric efforts, and inclusivity

LifeMining is a process where creators and followers create and share ownership of an NFT together during a challenge. Various use cases can be imagined.

  • [Education] The completion rate of educational programs is very low, around 5%. What if we could record the challenge process together through LifeMining and celebrate the success by minting an NFT?
  • [Entertainment] HYBE idols hold a dance challenge with fans after releasing a new song and mint an NFT, and they can share the rewards with followers. Isn’t that meaningful? As a reference, the log notes of the process of making popular movies are also items that fans must collect.
  • [Sports] When NIKE releases a new product, people can certify their daily running challenge. If people participate in the process and succeed in the challenge, they will receive rewards. If you want to create a habit of using your product, you can do it with LifeMining.

People don’t just consume, they like the experience of participating and thinking of it as part of themselves.

Zooming-out

I believe that web3 is a new frontier for humanity to build upon. It is an opportunity to explore and develop new types of social rules. Social media will play a key role to connect humans to humans.

No one’s set the rules for how the world should work. It’s up to us to make our own values and goals, and that’s what will set the standards. This isn’t an answer, but it’s a reminder that it’s up to us to create the world we want.

We’re excited to be pushing forward with this innovative idea in the Web 3.0 era! We need to investigate how Life Mining can be integrated with other web3 technologies. We must also focus on user engagement and retention to ensure that Life Mining has a positive impact on real lives.
