Tanzania located in east africa has a budding startup scene that is slowly gaining momentum the country has a population of over 59 million people with a majority of them living in rural areas historically tanzania has been known for its agricultural exports but in recent years the government has been pushing for more technological innovations to boost the economy the startup scene in tanzania is relatively new with a few notable companies such as jumia a popular ecommerce platform and kopagas a clean energy startup the country has also seen an increase in the number of incubators and accelerators such as buni hub and kinu which provide support and resources for entrepreneurs tanzania has a few universities that offer courses in entrepreneurship such as the university of dar es salaam and the nelson mandela african institution of science and technology however the living wage in tanzania is quite low with the minimum wage being around 100 per month the unemployment rate is also high with over 10 of the population being unemployed despite these challenges the startup scene in tanzania is slowly thriving the city level gdp has been steadily increasing and there has been a rise in the number of new companies starting up however the rate of companies ending is also high indicating that there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure the sustainability of these startups overall tanzanias startup scene is still in its early stages but with the governments support and the rise of incubators and accelerators there is hope for a brighter future the countrys unique geography and diverse population provide a wealth of opportunities for entrepreneurs to create innovative solutions to local problems
