The role of a tech lead or principal engineer can vary between companies and can change with time as a company faces different challenges. While tech leads and principal engineers are generally better compensated, it doesn’t necessarily make them better jobs. As an IC, you have a wide range of technical skills – programming paradigms, languages, frameworks and tools. You are highly respected within the organization as well as in the wider industry.
